The gap between job openings and job seekers is widening, the CBIA Foundation's Dustin Nord tells The Day. The labor shortage and other factors, such as regulatory costs, often lead Connecticut businesses considering expansion to choose sites in the Southwest or Midwest rather than here. “In the long term, that’s something we should be concerned about,” he said, calling for "a more robust response" from the state to address workforce declines. #connecticut #workforce #workforcesolutions #reimagineCT

“We didn’t have an honestly balanced budget for decades, and we went from boom to bust,” Governor Ned Lamont says in defense of the fiscal guardrails, which are under threat. “We didn’t pay our bills. We stuck a lot on the credit card—that was everything from bonding to pensions—and it was terrible. So, I do not want to go back to those bad days, and I think we’ve done pretty well with six balanced budgets in a row.” #connecticut #fiscalstability #affordability #reimagineCT

The Connecticut Department of Administrative Services launched the new CT Gateway portal designed to make it easier for small businesses to interact with the state. The Small/Minority Business Enterprise is the first application to be hosted on the portal. “This streamlined application process will allow for DAS to be more efficient in empowering more minority-owned businesses to thrive,” said Minority Construction Council’s Jennifer Little-Greer. #smallbusiness #minorityownedbusiness #Connecticut?

While job growth has stalled in the second half of the year, demand for workers is growing, with job openings up 2.6% in September to 80,000—14% higher than pre-pandemic levels, with 1.4 openings for every unemployed person. “With?a very low?unemployment rate and a steady labor force participation rate, this?remains?a tight job market for employers,” says the Connecticut Department of Labor's Patrick Flaherty. “They?are constrained by the?smaller workforce post-pandemic.” #connecticut #jobs #workforce #workforcesolutions #reimagineCT

Thrilled with the election of nine outstanding business leaders to CBIA's board of directors, a diverse group from across the state, representing a wide range of industry sectors and sizes. And for the first time in our organization's history, we have more women than men on the board. It’s that diversity of experience, insight, and perspective that will help create innovative solutions to our biggest challenges and help build a vibrant economy with meaningful opportunities for all. https://cbia.biz/3CDHnxP #reimaginect Timothy Diemand Maureen O. What a fantastic night at our 2024 Annual Meeting & Reception. It was great to see so many members of the business community come together for Connecticut’s largest networking event of the year. Special thanks to Gov. Ned Lamont for sharing his outlook for the state and to outgoing CBIA board chair Kevin Grigg, PE for highlighting this year's important partnerships and collaborations. J.P. Morgan’s Michelle Buonfiglio and University of Connecticut legend and Atlanta Dream WNBA co-owner Renee Montgomery topped off the evening with unique perspectives on teamwork and leadership, and a few insights and stories about playing for Geno Auriemma. #Connecticut #reimagineCT #UConn #cteconomy ReadyCT CONNSTEP, Inc.
