What a week! From CBIA member visits to delivering banners to some of the finalists of our Coolest Thing Made in Connecticut competition to of course our 209th Annual Meeting that had 800-plus people and a room full of energy, networking, and of coursehugging and laughter. That’s what we do in Connecticut. We are a small state which allows for deep connections. Not just business acquaintances but friends who are like extended family—there for each other professionally and personally to navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and build the strength to navigate the future together. The Connecticut Department of Administrative Services launched the new CT Gateway portal designed to make it easier for small businesses to interact with the state. The Small/Minority Business Enterprise is the first application to be hosted on the portal. “This streamlined application process will allow for DAS to be more efficient in empowering more minority-owned businesses to thrive,” said Minority Construction Council’s Jennifer Little-Greer. #smallbusiness #minorityownedbusiness #Connecticut?

While job growth has stalled in the second half of the year, demand for workers is growing, with job openings up 2.6% in September to 80,000—14% higher than pre-pandemic levels, with 1.4 openings for every unemployed person. “With?a very low?unemployment rate and a steady labor force participation rate, this?remains?a tight job market for employers,” says the Connecticut Department of Labor's Patrick Flaherty. “They?are constrained by the?smaller workforce post-pandemic.” #connecticut #jobs #workforce #workforcesolutions #reimagineCT

Connecticut employers will see lower workers’ compensation costs for an 11th consecutive year in 2025, with state regulators approving NCCI's recommended average 6.1% cut in voluntary market rates and a 6.2% decrease in assigned risk. “Workplace safety continues to improve," says Gov. Very saddened by the news of former Governor Jodi Rell's passing. She took office under difficult circumstances, then steered the state through the challenges posed by the 2008-2009 Great Recession, leading from the center and pulling both parties together. The sweeping 2010 bipartisan jobs bill—which she signed at my old firm, Pegasus Manufacturing in Middletown—was a clear reflection of that effort. After leaving office, her commitment to community and civil political discourse continued—she was very gracious in agreeing to judge the National Civics Bee Connecticut State Finals earlier this year with former Secretary of State Denise Merrill. She was our 87th governor and just the second woman to hold that office and will be greatly missed.
