Dr. Jason Deane, Academic Director for CBA and Associate Professor in the BIT Department, has been elected President-Elect of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI)! Last week our HP capstone team visited company headquarters at Palo Alto! ??? The team visited the birthplace of Silicon Valley:?a garage where the founders of HP began developing their first product in 1938. But this was far from a leisure trip—?the team spent the majority of their time in California working alongside HP executives to support their market strategies and identify high-value customers. From Capstone to Career: How MSBA-BA students brought predictive analytics to sponsor Flex-Metrics ?? Cohort 8 students Brendan Atkisson, Kayla Jones, Isaac Moore, Tyler Scott, and Hui (Esther) Wang were members of the capstone team for sponsor Flex-Metrics. Over the course of the 9-month project, these talented business analysts developed a machine learning module to help predict and avoid catastrophic machine downtime. This tool is a new product offering and revenue generator for the company. After earning their MSBA degrees and graduating from Virginia Tech, Esther and Isaac chose to join Flex-Metrics full-time, where they have continued to develop and implement this tool in service of Flex-Metrics' manufacturing customers. Our thanks to Flex, their customer Spectrum Brands, Inc, and Esther and Isaac for sharing their story with us.
