#SB54 “has always been about affordability,” said Senator Ben Allen, author of SB 54 to Los Angeles Times An analysis funded by the state found that "most Californians were likely to see an increase in personal income as a result of the law, ranging from a $3 per person bump during the first year and $131 by 2032." #SB54 #CALeg #BreakFreeFromPlastic #CAMustLead https://lnkd.in/g8Kgb4Q4
关于我们
The mission of Californians Against Waste is to conserve resources, prevent pollution and protect California’s environment through the development, promotion, and implementation of waste reduction and recycling policies and programs. Founded in 1977, Californians Against Waste is a non-profit environmental research and advocacy organization that identifies, develops, promotes and monitors policy solutions to pollution and conservation problems posing a threat to public health and the environment. Californians Against Waste's history has demonstrated it to be the nation's oldest, largest and most effective non-profit environmental organization advocating for the implementation of waste reduction and recycling policies and programs. Californians Against Waste believes that when manufacturers are required to internalize the environmental externalities (costs) of material extraction, processing and manufacturing pollution, and end-of-life waste management in a product price, the market-place motivates them to reduce consumption, replace virgin resources with recycled materials, reduce toxicity and waste, design for maximum life and recyclability, and generally improve sustainability. This concept of Producer Responsibility lies at the root of virtually every legislative policy that CAW has pursued for the last 42 years.

Haven’t heard of #SB54 (California’s landmark legislation targeting single use plastic)?? ?? Plastic pollution costs Californians $428 million annually to clean up and control.? ?? SB 54 addresses this by shifting the costs to producers & in the process, discourages unnecessary single use plastic.? ?? Gov. Newsom and his administration must meet this week’s deadline to adopt the regulations that will keep the state on track to meet the law’s ambitious goals. California is falling behind; California Air Resources Board must update the landfill methane rule to include the latest technology to monitor in order to tackle methane emissions. actonlandfills.org #ActOnLandfills #ActOnClimate
Digging deeper on landfill emissions, our waste sector lead Tia Scarpelli recently testified at a state-led landfill emissions hearing alongside waste expert Tom Frankiewicz from RMI and others. A few takeaways from the public forum: ??Tia highlighted the value airborne and satellite remote sensing technology offers operators and governments who want to better understand where emissions are coming from at a facility and identify the largest methane sources to help prioritize mitigation efforts. ?? When landfill operational practices are linked to routine methane monitoring from remote and ground-based sensors, the data can be used to guide mitigation and verify success. ?? Mitigating methane at landfills is a win-win for all stakeholders! A good example is Sunshine Canyon Landfill in California, where Carbon Mapper data was used to support mitigation of a large methane source. Follow-up remote sensing surveys verified emissions reduction, which correlated with a 55-60% reduction in community odor complaints. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gxQH6mRX
