The Coalition for Health Funding cannot stress enough how reckless these rumored cuts to HHS agencies would be. This article came one day after another article warning of 50 percent cuts to staffing at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. And there are further rumors at NIH, CDC, and FDA. There is growing smoke, and we are on close watch for the possible five alarm fire to follow.
We are deeply concerned about the lack of transparency and strategic planning in the proposed HHS reorganization, especially as it relates to the potential overhaul of AHRQ and a subsequent chilling effect on the research ecosystem. We have been and continue to actively engage with policymakers to understand the details and highlight the potentially devastating consequences of a rushed, poorly executed overhaul.
