This glowing client testimonial came in after a construction proposal. We zeroed in on what the RFP wanted by sending in RFIs and following up when necessary. Another success for the tried-and-true Cavalry process! (After each submitted proposal, Cavalry invites our clients to fill out a post-proposal feedback survey so we can track satisfaction and improve processes. This client generously granted us permission to post this quote. We redact identifying details to preserve client confidentiality. But if you spend enough time out and about networking, our clients just might identify themselves!) #govcon #proposals #wosb #callinthecavalry

If you're a proposal professional like us, you read a lot of RFPs and specifications. You expect them to be clear, precise, and unambiguous. You expect them to have no conflicting statements. But do you read your own proposal writing the same way? Because the people who write those RFPs and specifications expect the same from all of us. As proposal writers, it is our job to be clear, precise, and unambiguous, too. So, don't forget to scrutinize your own proposals with the same meticulousness that you devote to reviewing RFPs. It's what we do here at Cavalry! #govcon #proposals #wosb #funfactfriday #callinthecavalry

For today's Cavalry Consulting Staff Spotlight, we're spotlighting Benny Volkmann! Benny is a Proposal Consultant with over 20 years of experience in facilities management and service contract support for the U.S. Navy. His roles included source selection board member and contracting officer for construction and service contracts. During his time on source selection boards, he evaluated proposals that were sometimes vague, lacked a coherent message, or worse—disqualified for missing key elements. As a Proposal Consultant at Cavalry, he helps firms avoid these costly mistakes and improve the quality of their technical ratings. Benny resides in the Driftless Region of Iowa, where he is also a full-time corn and soybean farmer and board member of the Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity. When he’s not reviewing proposals or out in the fields, you can find him at Nordic Fest, cross country and track meets, basketball and soccer games, or exploring the nearby trails with his wife, two daughters, and dog. #staffspotlight #govcon #proposals #callinthecavalry

Want to know the easiest way to increase your win rate? We'll give you a hint: it isn't by submitting more proposals. Especially not if your team has limited resources. To increase your chances of success, you actually need to be very picky about which contracts you go after. Determine how likely it is that your firm will win a contract before committing your resources. Your proposal team and SMEs can only perform at their best when they aren't spread ultra-thin. By skipping the opportunities that you can't win, you allow your team to do better work where it matters. ?Are you bidding because you're trying to meet a certain number of proposals submitted per month, or because you think you can win the contract? ?Are you bidding because the work sounds cool, or because your Capture Manager's analysis indicated you were among the most qualified of the potential competitors? If you're having trouble answering these questions, we at Cavalry Consulting can help get you on the right track before you start devoting resources. And if you (or your boss) think you can win everything, we can provide an outside perspective. Stay tuned for more posts about Cavalry's recommended Go/No Go criteria in the future! #govcon #proposals #wosb #funfactfriday #callinthecavalry

Did you know that maintaining an organized library of proposal content saves more than headaches? It saves money, too. Cavalry analyzed the hours our team spent on 13 separate proposals for the same client over the span of 2 years (7 in the first year, 6 in the second). Before this, the client was going back to old proposals as a starting point for their new ones. During the first year, we helped organize and catalog their existing content and develop new material. The results are evident in Year 2: - 35% lower proposal costs (consultant billable time) - Decrease in avg. hours/proposal from 64.4 to 53.2 - Over $300 Million in contracts won - 4 more winning proposals When you hire a proposal consultant, we recommend doing an internal audit of your content library. Do you have current resumes for your key personnel? Do you have up-to-date project experience and past performance records in organized folders? Can you easily filter and sort these projects and resumes using details from the RFP? You'll want to have these items on file: 1. Graphics, Logos, Photos 2. Project Descriptions, PPQs, CPARs 3. Key Personnel Resumes 4. Official Documentation (SBA letter, JV agreement, Financial Statements, GC license, etc.) 5. Safety Data (OSHA Logs, DART/TCR/EMR Rates) 6. Narratives (Quality Control, Corporate Safety, etc.) This content will be used as the basis for your new proposal. It will be tailored and refined based on the specific RFP requirements and evaluation criteria. (Remember, boilerplate content NEVER gets submitted as-is!) Also: if you're looking to experiment with AI in your proposal process, all of the above still applies. The more organized and comprehensive your content library is, the more useful it will be. Data in is data out, and without a strong foundation, you're not going to get the results you're looking for. #govcon #proposals #wosb #funfactfriday #callinthecavalry
