?? Support a Future of Diverse Leadership in Healthcare! ?? Did you know that while Asian Americans are often well-represented in medical fields, they remain underrepresented in leadership roles in healthcare? This gap creates barriers to career growth, fosters isolation, and limits the impact Asian American voices can have on healthcare advancement. Our mission is to change this narrative by empowering Asian Americans in nephrology and healthcare, providing career development opportunities, mentorship, and a strong community. With your support, we can cultivate the next generation of diverse leaders who bring unique perspectives to healthcare, leading to better patient care for all. Why does this matter? ?? Enhanced Patient Care: Diverse leadership improves cultural competence, reduces disparities, and leads to more personalized, inclusive care. #DiversityInMedicine ?? Representation in Clinical Trials: Asian nephrologists are advocating for more Asian representation in research, ensuring that treatments and therapies are effective for all communities. #HealthEquity ?? Thanks to Michelle Ko, MD, PhD for bubbling up this issue. Asians are not a monolithic group. Simplifying this group into a single category, or worse, combining with others and labeling them as "not underrepresented," hides the realities faced by many marginalized subgroups. We need more nuanced data like Dr. Ko's to reflect this diversity and to ensure equitable support. A more diverse workforce is a stronger workforce. #Diversity #Inclusion #HealthEquity #AsianAmericanVoices
Asian Americans in the healthcare workforce: Data disaggregation is long overdue! This is just a small step towards making our conversations better https://lnkd.in/gpiS43ZG

One size does not fit all. How we are measuring kidney function may be hurting Asian Americans. #healthequity #kidneyhealth #asianhealth

Thank you to Leslie Wong, MD, MBA, FACP, FASN and the Executive Committee of CATION+ for paving the way for positive change in our field!
As President of CATION+, the Coalition of Asian Americans Transforming Opportunities in Nephrology, I spent time at the RPA Renal Physicians Association 50th Anniversary Gala with Dr. Alex Liang, CEO of award-winning Dallas Nephrology Associates. Earlier in the meeting, a survey demonstrated that 30% of nephrologists in the U.S. are Asian American. Alex asked me what I was hoping CATION+ would accomplish. We discussed the challenges that Asian American nephrologists face in being treated as equals relative to leadership and opportunities for career advancement in medicine. In the course of the evening, we learned we were classmates at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School just one year apart, shared the same heritage as Hakka Chinese, and how we both had experienced racism during our medical careers. Our conversation helped reinforce one of the important reasons CATION+ exists - the need for a professional network to support and connect Asian American nephrologists, trainees, and medical students nationwide.
