A little late posting of our amazing Day of Service during the Somos Puerto Rico 2024 conference this past November 8th. Our #teamcatholiccharities and our wonderful volunteers provided help and created hope to over 50 seniors at the Centro Esperanza para la Vejez in Carolina, PR. A few hours of conversation, singing, laughter, games, and a great meal really made a difference for these seniors who struggle with social isolation. Thank you to all who joined us… Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York

Here at Catholic Charities of New York we are so grateful for our corporate partners. We owe a special thanks to the HNTB employees, who recently spent their Sunday at our agency partner Xavier Mission, serving food to under-resourced New Yorkers in Manhattan. Cheers to time well spent and collaboration for good :).

For 113 years, The New York Times Communities Fund has been a catalyst for readers to support the work of leading nonprofits making an impact in their communities. As Nick Kristof two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and The New York Times columnist, puts it: “Just as The New York Times reviews restaurants and movies, just as we recommend the best televisions on Wirecutter, we’ve also selected nonprofits to guide readers to some that are particularly effective. That’s the role of the New York Times Communities Fund…” Catholic Charities New York is honored to be the oldest beneficiary of The New York Times Communities Fund that supports nonprofits that help individuals and communities improve their circumstances. This year, our $1M campaign goal will address two urgent needs: ?? $750,000 to fight homelessness, helping families transition from shelters to affordable housing. ?? Additional funds will provide legal assistance for immigrants and refugees, empowering them to build better futures. For over a century, Catholic Charities New York and The New York Times Communities Fund have worked hand in hand to uplift those in need. Together, we will continue to partner to build a better New York for all. Visit https://lnkd.in/ec5SBFC7 and https://lnkd.in/e237_FCf to learn more and donate. #NYTCommunitiesFund

?? Exciting News from Catholic Homes of New York! ?? We are thrilled to announce that Catholic Homes of New York and our affiliate, the New York Institute for Human Development, have been awarded a prestigious FY 2024 Capital Magnet Fund (CMF) Award by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund. This recognition places us among 48 organizations nationwide. It is part of a $246.4 million initiative to address the affordable housing crisis and support vital community facilities for low-income individuals and families. The CMF award enables us to: ?? Leverage federal funds to attract at least 10x in private investment, fueling over $6.8 billion in projects nationwide. ?? Strategically invest in predevelopment costs, ensuring the creation of affordable housing in economically distressed and gentrifying neighborhoods across New York City. ??? Russell Lang, CEO and President of Catholic Homes, shared: “This award is pivotal in our mission to transform properties into homes for families, seniors, and formerly homeless individuals. It allows us to preserve affordability where it’s most needed and focus our resources on creating impactful, sustainable housing solutions.” While this award marks a significant milestone, collaboration remains key to solving the housing crisis. We invite partners, stakeholders, and community members to join us in this transformative mission. Let’s make a lasting impact—together! News Announcement: https://lnkd.in/eHnKcKs4?

"The poor are people; they have faces, stories, hearts, and souls." – Pope Francis Established in 2017, the World Day of the Poor invites us to reflect, heal, and grow in solidarity with those in need. It's a call to action to not turn away but to recognize the humanity in every person and contribute to their well-being through acts of compassion and charity. If you missed today’s World Day of the Poor Mass, take a moment to reflect with some powerful words from Monsignor Kevin Sullivan and watch as Cardinal Dolan blesses the food that will soon be distributed at our upcoming Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution. Together, we can make a difference. Help us continue to serve those in need. Your generosity fuels our mission to provide for the most vulnerable.
