We’re honored to be part of Rich’s journey to recovery. Rich first found Cathedral Kitchen when he was living in a shelter, and since then, he’s been returning on and off for several years—always finding comfort in a warm meal and a community that cares. Rich has his master’s degree in finance and used to work in banking. But life took some unexpected turns, and now he’s working part-time while focusing on his sobriety and rebuilding his life, as he resides in a sober living house. He’s especially grateful for the support he’s received at CK, noting that the staff goes above and beyond to help those in need. "The CK staff is very helpful and courteous. The volunteers they bring in are very nice too. If you need help with something and they can't do it here, they have all the resources to help you get it. Most people living in the streets have lost their ID and need to get it replaced and don't know how to do it, and you know, they take the time here to help." "The place is very clean and safe, and again, it provides really good food. They give you food to go home with too. So you know, no one should go hungry if you come here." Recent federal funding cuts have significantly impacted programs that support food banks and school meal services. The USDA has terminated initiatives like the Local Food for Schools Program and the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program, which collectively provided over $1 billion to aid schools and food banks in procuring fresh produce from local farmers. These cuts are expected to increase food insecurity nationwide. At Cathedral Kitchen, we anticipate a rising demand for our services due to these federal cuts. We remain committed to supporting our neighbors during these challenging times, but we can't do it alone. Now more than ever, we need our community.
