We want to once again express our gratitude to local falconer and retired science teacher Roger Tucker! Earlier this month, Roger presented to our Woodland Park middle and high school outdoor enrichment participants, and last Thursday, he was kind enough to do the same for our Colorado Springs participants. We are so fortunate to have such a fantastic community and appreciate all the experts who work with us to connect kids to the outdoors! Our Building Outdoor Leaders Today (BOLT) cohort for 2025 had another great Saturday session over the weekend. Our BOLT high school mentors learned and practiced how to coach youth through challenging activities. Our adaptations focused "Skulls and Furs" lessons was a highlight of last week's Elevate STEAM with Carmel Middle School. Taxidermy may weird some folks out at times, but it isn't often you are able to touch, observe, and investigate the teeth of a coyote or the fur of a bear! As always, thank you to Harrison School District 2 for having us as a partner on this program! Our Building Outdoor Leaders Today (BOLT) program for 2025 started strong last Saturday with plenty of team building, leadership discussions, and career exploration. This year, our high school leadership cohort is spending several Saturdays learning all about how to be leaders and mentors to kids while also learning how to work outdoors. Like last year, the program will culminate in an overnight trip at Camp Shady Brook, but a new addition to the program is that we will have 25 local middle school students on the trip as well for the high schoolers to mentor! Thank you again, Peak Education and Camp Shady Brook, for your partnership on this program. Our Outdoor Weekly Learning Middle & High School participants recently wrapped up last trimester's mushroom project with a mini-symposium for their parents. After their hard work, we had some relaxing & fun times revisiting past activities. After practicing doing mushroom-specific experiments last trimester, they are now creating questions for their own original science projects for the last trimester of the year.
