This project our members scored in September 2023 is anticipated to come to the City Council on March 11. If you can believe it, that's fast in #SanJose and that's good news! That being said, we still want them to be as good as possible and incorporate constructive community feedback from folks like our members. We know how hard it is right now to finance and build #housing. Our members believe deeply in integrated communities where diverse people live together. That's why we fight so hard for market-rate development to include affordable units as part of the project instead of paying the city an affordable housing fee to build somewhere else at some future time. It's disappointing to see this proposal go from 15% #affordablehousing on site to 5% + paying the fee. We need more projects like this -- housing projects on small pieces of land that include lots of homes and advance quickly.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by and participated at Community Open House - Hostetter Station TOD on Saturday, February 8! ?? We are grateful for the feedback everyone provided and the conversations we had. Community input is invaluable as we continue to shape the future of this project. Participants enjoyed the children’s activities, refreshments, and utilized the interpreter services we had on-site – these additions helped make the event even more accessible and inclusive! ? We’d also like to give a special recognition to Cherrywood Elementary for letting us use the Multipurpose Room! Please stay tuned for other ways to participate in the coming months!

This Wednesday, our Project Advocacy Committee will re-score Stevens Creek Promenade, a proposal from Miramar Capital for 4300 Stevens Creek Blvd. in San José. The project was first proposed in 2017, followed by major revisions in 2020. As of late 2024, the developer is again exploring overhauling the proposal. The most recent iteration of this project was approved in 2022 and called for 580 units (173 of which were affordable), a 0.8-acre paseo, a 250-room hotel, and 11,300 sq. ft. of commercial space. The new proposal includes the addition of a 3.8-acre car dealership. The project would maintain the 173 affordable housing units but decrease the number of market-rate units to 191. To learn more about Stevens Creek Promenade, join our Project Advocacy Committee Meeting tomorrow @ 6:30 via Zoom. If you would like to join or have any other questions, email Jake ([email protected]).

Sometimes, the best way to ramp up in #2025 is to figure out what you missed in 2024. Here was our last action alert of the year: https://lnkd.in/ge-wc7Bb. Our members always want to find projects to support, yet once in a blue moon, we see one so bad we have to speak out. We'd like to ask you to too! Summary: Chick-fil-A is proposing a car-centric, single-story fast food restaurant at the intersection of W. San Carlos and Race Street that will tear down a building currently occupied by two small, local businesses. The City of San Jose’s General Plan calls for the area of West San Carlos Street in Midtown San Jose to transform into one of the city’s “urban villages,” which means a walkable, transit-accessible, neighborhood of buildings 3-7 stories with active ground floors and housing above. Chick-fil-A should only be allowed here as part of a multi-story housing project or it should be located elsewhere.
