关于我们
Founded in 1996 by Daniella Levine Cava, Catalyst Miami is building a Miami where all people can afford to live well, for generations to come. In addition to supporting individuals, families, and small businesses through a variety of free services, we focus on catalyzing opportunities to strengthen our neighborhoods, expand local ownership, and shape public policy. Our advocacy and leadership training programs, as well as our community economic development initiatives, contribute to an ever-growing network of grassroots leaders transforming our region from the ground up.

Exhoribtatnt cooling costs hurt our community and the data backs it up ?? That's why we're urging Florida Lawmakers to support the Pause Act (HB 419 / SB 330). This bill would stop utility shutoffs during extreme weather events like heat waves and hurricanes. Show your support for this life-saving legislation here: https://lnkd.in/eCaVK9-R
People face life threatening heat right in their own homes—some of which can even mirror outdoor heat hazards. Out now is our study led by Dr. Lynée Turek-Hankins, in which we highlight this exposure and risk across a chronically hot-humid urban region with large socioeconomic disparities: https://lnkd.in/dz6ZhZra In partnership with Catalyst Miami and Miami-Dade County’s Chief Heat Officer, Jane Gilbert, we placed temperature-humidity sensors across 57 households in Miami-Dade County who expressed feeling too hot at home and/or experiencing energy burdens in attempting to cool down their home. Complementary survey and interview results gathered alongside measured temperature data, including surface urban heat island intensity, supported the identification of four causal pathways that lead to increased heat risk at home, as seen in the graphical abstract below. Across pathways, low-income plays the largest role in a household’s ability to cool down or afford heat resilient housing and infrastructure. This multi-method analysis sheds light on the combinations of risk factors that would be missed in traditional social vulnerability analyses. These results pinpoint the need for comprehensive solutions across neighborhoods & housing in unique, hot-humid climates.

?? Home prices, heat indexes, sea levels We can all agree — Miami's housing and weather isn't what it used to be. We all work hard for our families to afford to stay here, safely and comfortably, hopefully for generations to come. What does that look like in today's market? with tomorrow's climate? Our housing (HEAL) and climate (CLEAR) leadership programs are here to help us answer those questions. In each of these cohorts you'll learn more about Miami's unique position within each topic and co-create solutions with like-minded neighbors. Sign up today at https://lnkd.in/e_sNpv3T ?? CLEAR starts Tuesday, March 11 & HEAL starts Thursday, April 10. ??: Photos from our 2023 Fall Leadership Program Graduation
