The appetite for M&A in the tech & services sectors is expected to persist and even accelerate in the second half of 2024. Whichever end you are on, you can count on Catalyst Strategies to bring practical solutions to post M&A go-to-market integration that are based on clear strategy and executed with the customer experience in mind.
For those responsible for post M&A integration, this weekend's FRB-to-JPMC mass cutover is a great lesson in prioritization. From the experience, it's clear that JPMC prioritizes bank efficiencies over customer experience and retention. This is the RIGHT choice for the largest bank in the world that acquired FRB for 'a song' and can afford to lose a significant share of acquired customers and assets. They are betting on inertia. However, for companies that prioritize customer retention, there are plenty of "don'ts" to be learned from this transition. Some include: customer service lines on 'regular business hours' during transition of thousands of customers (5am-5pm for west coast FRB customers); requiring FRB customers to navigate through multiple teams in the bank to resolve problems (4 teams in my case), each requiring 1.5+ hours hold times; not automatically granting access to previously used critical business tools like ACH and requiring engagement with technology team members or branch bankers to enable use of the product; automatically attributing information from a legacy Chase card program to transferred business banking products, putting my deposit account security at risk. I won't go on. My takeaways: 1. opportunity for competitive share grab right now 2. great insights for Catalyst Strategies post M&A integration work 3. nostalgia for #itsapleasuretoserveyou #frb First Republic
