Exciting News! Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Casita-sponsored AB 2533 into law! This bill is a game changer for legalizing unpermitted ADUs, making it easier, more affordable, and predictable for homeowners. Now, more homeowners can bring their units up to safety standards without breaking the bank, helping to preserve a critical segment of California's naturally affordable rental housing market. This is a huge win for renters, homeowners, and housing stability in our communities! We thank Asm. Carrillo for championing this effort and everyone who supported this vital step toward advancing housing equity and preserving much-needed affordable homes. With a trailblazing career dedicated to expanding housing access, homeownership, and advancing racial equity, Noerena’s visionary leadership will elevate our mission to new heights. ??? Over the past two years, she has spearheaded transformative projects for our organization as an executive consultant. She curated the 2023 Build the Middle Convening, led the development of the Build the Middle Playbook in partnership with Zillow and brought together public and private sector leaders to advance middle housing innovations across the U.S. and Canada. From reshaping U.S. mortgage regulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to championing Latino homeownership at the NAHREP - National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals?, and being appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Housing Finance Agency (CALHFA) board, Noerena’s commitment to equitable housing has been unwavering. We are thrilled to share that last week we had the honor to present at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's #ALC53, where Casita Coalition and Zillow unveiled the groundbreaking Build the Middle Playbook—a roadmap to solve the housing affordability crisis through innovative middle housing solutions like ADUs and townhomes.
