To end the cycle between?homelessness and incarceration in NYC,?supportive housing must be accessible for people with involvement in the justice system. Current supportive housing criteria?disqualifies people in jail or prison for more than 90 days. As a result,?many people exiting jails and prisons enter into the shelter system—a cycle that can be stopped with tailored permanent supportive housing solutions. We need to expand supportive housing eligibility to include people with involvement in the justice system. https://lnkd.in/gMTYptFk "The Corporation for Supportive Housing estimates that more than 2,500 people being held on Rikers for more than a year could benefit from supportive housing, but are disqualified by homeless 'chronicity' requirements." Jason Gordon, Program Director for CASES Assertive Community Engagement & Success (ACES) program, presented on cognitive behavioral interventions at the Violence Reduction Center at the University of Maryland. CASES youth programs use Rewire, a cognitive behavioral theory (CBT) approach that helps young people learn the lifesaving skills they need to heal from trauma and make healthier choices. Rewire enables us to reach youth who are not consistently served by clinical settings. #YouthDevelopment #ViolencePrevention #MentalHealth #AlternativesToIncarceration
