GOOD NEWS! The City of Seattle just announced eight recipients of $3.5 million total in grants to help decarbonize under-resourced buildings, like low-income family and non-profit owned buildings. The funding will help install heat pumps or pay for decarbonization analyses. The grants are just one of the many ways our City Building Emissions Performance Standard team is gearing up to help building owners comply with the new emissions requirements.? https://lnkd.in/gChm3ivj

In the next week, Washington voters have the opportunity to “Vote NO on I-2117” to protect the Climate Commitment Act (CCA)—our State’s most comprehensive approach to climate action, to date.? ? With funds from the CCA, local jurisdictions and agencies across Washington have been able to work in tandem with their communities to develop plans, policies, and programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle-miles traveled, outline a path to electrification infrastructure, and build resilience to heat, flooding, smoke, wildfire, and sea-level rise impacts from climate change. ? Having supported dozens of these projects, we’ve seen the positive impact that the CCA has already had on local communities and are excited for Washington’s future as a sustainable, low-emissions, and resilient place to live and work. ? I-2117 aims to repeal the CCA and effectively defund future opportunities to transition to clean energy, develop sustainable infrastructure, and preserve the health of our communities as they face impacts from climate change. A “no” on I-2117 would preserve the CCA and all the opportunities it provides. Cascadia’s mission is to “inspire communities everywhere to protect and restore our world,” and we’re proud to support Washington’s continued leadership in advancing policies that protect and restore our environment, economy, infrastructure, and communities. While more work is needed, this strategy provides a strong foundation for collaboration between state agencies to develop climate resilience strategies that are transformative and prepare our communities for climate change.
