When two Colorado ice climbers at two separate locations suffered major injuries from falls and had to be evacuated in December, local climber Jay Karst sprang into action. After assisting Summit County SAR with the carryout of one of the injured climbers, Karst set up a Go Fund Me account to try and purchase some better litters that could be left at the base of the two climbs (Lincoln Falls on Hoosier Pass and at the Vail Amphitheater). This would dramatically speed up rescue efforts in the future since the litters would be staged closer, have patient restraints and be better suited for dragging over the rocks and snow below the climbs. Last weekend, Karst and fellow climbers Casey Graham and Jonathan White strategically placed two Cascade Rescue Model 200 Advance Series Litters, and litter covers, near the base of the two climbs. Cascade Rescue would like to thank Park County SAR, Flight For Life, Park County Fire, and Vail Mountain Rescue for their work during the initial rescues in December, and Jay, Casey, Jonathan and all the climbers who donated to the fund. Cascade Rescue recently had the chance to walk members of the Kentucky Army National Guard through the use of their new StableFlight Heli-Bag Complete Operational Package at their hangar in Frankfort, KY. DET 1 C Co 2-238th AV, or “Wildcat DUSTOFF” is part of the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 63rd Theater Aviation Brigade and exists to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and US Service members at home and abroad by providing search and rescue, aeromedical evacuation, and critical care to the sick and injured. The StableFlight Heli-Bag will help them accomplish their rescue hoist missions with increased safety and efficiency.
