Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of San Mateo County empowers YOU to make a difference in the life of a child who has been abused or neglected. What We do: CASA of San Mateo County recruits, trains, and supports adult volunteers as a powerful voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children who have come under the court’s protection because their parents can’t or won’t take care of them. What CASA Volunteers do: They listen first. Then they act. Volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child by talking with everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. They provide consistent, caring support and make sure the child doesn't get lost in the system. For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. For many volunteers, CASA is a life-changing experience that makes a difference in our community. With just a few hours a week, you can make a lifetime of impact for a child in foster care. In partnership with the @FosterYouthMuseum, we hosted a Pop-Up Museum on Sunday, June 23. The young people we worked with spent the weekend creating pieces that reflect their experiences in the foster care or juvenile justice systems. Then we welcomed our CASA and San Mateo County community to join us for a reveal of some of the pieces. Thanks to Dreams33 Foundation for sharing your space with us throughout the weekend! It was the perfect environment for our participants to create their art and build community. Much of the art created this past weekend will be featured as part of the Foster Youth Museum at the Redwood City Public Library coming Spring 2025! We want to thank our Board Member's son and his school, Wornick Jewish Day School for their support! His 7th grade class has an annual project where they learn about Jewish values and find a worthy cause to fundraise for. His son decided to focus on values surrounding peace and caring for others and chose CASA as his social issue. Thank you for spreading awareness and your support!
