Speak up for a child in foster care
关于我们
CASA of Contra Costa County recruits, trains, and supports volunteer advocates as a powerful voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children during the court process, in order to help every child ultimately thrive in a stable and permanent home. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives

We are always excited to attend events that directly benefit and support youth, and last week's Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) Resource Fair was no exception. The day was filled with inspiring moments, from hearing youth share their plans for the future, to connecting with CASA volunteers and the youth they advocate for. We also had the opportunity to reconnect with former CASA youth who are now doing incredible things in our community. A big thank you to ILSP for providing this valuable opportunity to connect and support these young leaders! #FosterYouth #ILSP #YouthEmpowerment #CommunityImpact

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Assembly Bill 2906, which ensures that Social Security and disability benefits owed to foster children will be saved for them until they turn 18, rather than being used to cover the cost of their care. This is a significant step toward protecting the financial futures of one of our most vulnerable populations. While this law is a big win, there’s still work to be done, particularly to protect foster youth with disabilities. #AB2906 #Legislation #FosterYouth

?? Great news for foster youth in California! On September 22, Governor Newsom signed AB 2137 into law, authored by Assemblymember Quirk-Silva and co-sponsored by John Burton Advocates for Youth (JBAY) and the National Center for Youth Law. This important legislation empowers county offices of education to use state funding to provide direct services to foster youth through Foster Youth Services Coordinating Programs (FYSCPs), removing the previous requirement for school districts to certify in writing their inability to provide these services. This change will enable more timely, efficient support for foster youth across over 1,000 school districts in California. The law goes into effect on January 1, 2025, marking a critical step forward in improving educational outcomes for foster youth. ?? https://lnkd.in/ggTtnRp5 #FosterYouth #YouthAdvocacy #AB2137 #CaliforniaEducation
