Giving season is in full swing and we are partnering with local #Starbucks stores and businesses again! The stores listed below are all hosting one of our giving trees this year.?? If you see one of our giving trees, you can help us fulfill a Lake County foster child's wishlist by: ●pulling a tag ●purchasing the item(s) listed on the tag ●bringing item(s) back to the store (unwrapped) There will be a large box beside the giving tree for dropping off gift items, and CASA will collect these donations regularly through the end of December. A huge congratulations to our 5 new volunteer advocates who completed their 30-hour training and were sworn-in this morning by 19th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Marni M. Slavin. We are grateful they have taken on this very important role of advocating for the best interest of children in foster care in Lake County! P.S. We still have 19 children waiting for an advocate. If you know of anyone that would be interested in this type of volunteer opportunity, please share it with them! We are so proud of Sanaii Williams, former CASA youth and our 2024 summer intern — for receiving the prestigious 2024 Akerman Academic Excellence Scholarship. The Akerman Scholarship was established through an endowment created in 2015 as part of the firm’s landmark $1 million commitment to the National CASA/GAL Association. This endowment aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by young adults who have spent part of their childhood in the foster care system. Recipients of this scholarship exemplify exceptional academic dedication and readiness for future success. This is Rita, one of our amazing CASA volunteers. The children that she was advocating for were recently adopted, and on their adoption day, they gave Rita this sign they had made her to show their appreciation. So sweet!?????? By advocating for their needs, providing recommendations to the court, and being a constant in their lives, our CASA volunteers can make a real impact on the children they advocate for. While the volunteer opportunity can have its challenges, it can also be incredibly rewarding! ??We currently have 28 children on our waitlist waiting for a volunteer like Rita. Could that be you? Earlier this month, CASA volunteers came to our Fall Open House to pick out coats, clothing, shoes, toys, books, and other items for their CASA children. All items were generously donated by various community partners of ours. While providing physical items is not CASA’s main focus, we do find that some of the children we serve have great need and we are grateful to be able to meet those needs through the generosity of our community partners. A huge thank you and shout out to everyone involved in the setup of our open house as well as volunteers Matthew and Nicky who helped CASA volunteers find the coat sizes they needed and get them down from our newly improved storage wall! #casalakecounty #courtappointedspecialadvocates #volunteerinlakecounty
