This past month our amazing Housekeeping Department recognized Nathan Torres as the Housekeeping Employee of the Year. The celebration took place with a beautiful lunch to honor both Nathan and the entire housekeeping team! ? We also hosted an employee Thanksgiving lunch as a way to gather and give thanks to those we work with. As an organization, we are thankful for all of the Casa Dorinda team members for their tireless efforts in caring for our residents, community and each other. As part of Casa Dorinda’s continued Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belongingness initiative, we were honored to welcome James Joyce III to our campus to host Coffee with a Black Guy. Joyce is a proven analytical thinker, speaker, and writer who has a knack for addressing potentially tense situations head-on, while creating ease and space for shared growth and development in the process. ? Mr. Joyce came to Casa Dorinda for two presentations, with our Casa team members followed by a presentation for our Casa Dorinda residents. These presentations allowed us to gain a better cross-cultural understanding and explore our curiosity on issues of race and perspective to help further advance our cross-cultural understanding. The Casa Dorinda Visual Arts Committee hosted an exhibition of an unusual and diverse, but aesthetically and technically wonderful group of paintings from both a resident’s daughter and a caregiver’s 12-year-old daughter. One artist is a practitioner of the centuries-old Byzantine (Greek) style of icon painting in egg tempera on wood, while the other artist mainly uses colored pencils and markers for her illustrations. She even created an original drawing during the reception. The Visual Arts and Entertainment Committees joined forces with Casa’s talented ceramicists to host an ice cream social and succulent sale. Our resident ceramicists donated bowls and planters to be sold at the event. The proceeds support our Casa’s Employees’ Scholarship, Appreciation and Emergency Funds.
