?HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED??? Have you ever wondered what the key components are in regard to what makes up an ALS (Advanced Life Support) Ambulance ???? Read on to learn more: A. The lifepak 15 monitor/defibrilator-Among the first things all providers bring on any call, is our monitor. We rely on the Lifepak 15 monitor to get many jobs done. It can defibrillate, pace and cardiovert patients, which can treat life threats and stabilize patients. The Lifepak also has cardiac monitoring and can be used as a tool in diagnosing immediate life threats through automatic blood pressures, Oxygen saturation and Carbon Monoxide levels. B. Advanced Airways-Carthage Rescue participates in the New York State BLS Igel program, which allows participating BLS providers to place Igels in patients during cardiac arrests. Originally, this was an AEMT and Paramedic skill, but due to growing needs of the community, the skill was added to our Basic EMT scope of practice with training. Igels can be found in both our BLS and ALS ambulances. In addition to this, Video Laryngoscopes and Intubation Kits are found in every ALS rig and our flycar.? ? C. IV Kits-A necessary tool in every Intermediate and ALS rig, IV kits allow ALS providers to place IVs in patients who require them. IVs allow direct access to the patients bloodstream, and allow the provider to give life-saving medications.?IV kits mostly consist of IV needles, flushes, saline locks and gauze. D. Medications-There are many medications an ALS provider can give. Our ALS rigs are always stocked with the appropriate medications to help save lives.
