St. Michael Academy is the first of several phases to be realized on the Nolensville Catholic Campus. This facility houses grades PreK through 8th grade and serves as the temporary home to Mother Teresa Parish. The design was heavily influenced by goals established in the master planning process, some of which include: Stewardship, Preservation, Sustainability, Contextual Design, and Connection to the Natural Environment. The building sought to thoughtfully respond to many opportunities the existing 166 acre site offered. The massing of the building cascades down with the natural topography and the wings of the building reach out to embrace the existing pond that is central to the campus. Vehicular circulation was kept to the perimeter to allow for a more natural setting around the building and a variety of outdoor classroom environments. On the interior, state of the art classrooms and teaching spaces were tailored specific to each grade level, and furnished to be adaptable to a variety of curriculum. A natural material palette pulls from the exterior environment to influence the interiors and create a serene space for learning.
