Holding periods are shaped by many factors: a firm’s investment strategy, the portfolio company’s performance, and macroeconomic trends. Shorter holding periods often signal a growth equity approach, where the path to value creation is more direct. Longer holding periods typically reflect buyout or turnaround strategies, where deeper changes and restructuring are needed. Ongoing holding periods on Carta vary across industries:? ?? Finance & Healthcare companies are seeing the longest holding periods, driven by regulatory challenges and the use of M&A to consolidate market share. ??
