Leaders: Don’t forget to take time for you. Like, really truly. Pause. Breathe. Hydrate. Close your door and turn off your notifications and give yourself a period of time where you don’t even try to think about anyone else. You’re holding so much and caring for so many people. It’s not a luxury or an add-on to squeeze in on top of what else you’re doing. It IS the work that you’re doing, and you’ll be so much better positioned to be effective if you build up your own reserves. Give yourself permission for today to be a low-output day as much as possible. Respond to emails from bed. Reschedule meetings that aren’t critical for the day or don’t feel nourishing to you. Push back low-priority work. You’ll be stronger tomorrow because of it, and we’re going to need each other’s strength. Sending love.

I took a big risk a year ago (yesterday) to launch Carrie Bornstein Consulting and I'm so glad that I did. So grateful to the 21 organizations who placed their trust in me over the past year, the 7 people who referred new clients to me, and the countless others who have helped me on my way. I feel very lucky to get to do this work.

“At first I was really daunted by the challenge we selected, but once we started thinking about it together it became so much more clear what to do.” “It’s no surprise to me that you are a great facilitator. I *was* slightly surprised at how much fun I had doing the improv activities since it’s way outside my comfort zone. Thanks for making this important work fun!” Creative Problem Solving + Applied Improv = Chef’s Kiss Thanks for a great day, Audrey Marcus Berkman and temple ohabei shalom!

There’s really nothing quite like helping a team discover their strengths, both individually and together. And of course, creating lots of laughs in the process. ??

“In society, we are taught to focus on our weaknesses and to try to fix them. It helps to think about our strengths. I realize now how we can better support each other. What happened here will radiate out.” “I felt safe. I’m so glad to have these resources so I know who I can lean on when I need it and so we can do our best work.” “This was a gift we gave ourselves today - it was exactly what I was hoping for.” “My first reaction to ‘improv’ was to hide. But doing it, I realize that my perception of myself was not true… thank you for taking something that was labeled improv and making it user friendly.” Thank *you,* SENIOR Rabbi Jodie Gordon for nurturing this team so beautifully today, and for inviting me in to lead you through this sacred work on behalf of Hevreh of Southern Berkshire. And to my mentors and coaches, Judy Elkin - for introducing me to team-building strengths-based work, and Courtney Pong - for helping me get my start in the wonderful world of teaching Applied Improv.

Amazed (but not surprised) at how well Rae Ringel and Jacob Eastham’s Creative Problem Solving training worked in real life!

Back-to-back staff retreats! I had so much fun working with Dori Kirshner and the team at Matan Inc to help them envision and plot out their next 18 months. And tomorrow I get to help strengthen the Hevreh of Southern Berkshire team as Jodie Gordon takes the helm on her first day as Senior Rabbi. So lucky to get to do this work.

So thrilled that I got to participate in Rae Ringel and Jacob Eastham’s Creative Problem Solving facilitation training yesterday. My brain is swimming, in the best way possible, with a framework and techniques for helping groups to make serious progress on whatever challenges they’re facing. I’ve already used some of the learnings in two different capacities just today, without even planning to. Rae and Jacob are phenomenal and I can’t say enough good things about this training. Definitely worthwhile if you ever have an opportunity to participate. Plus it didn’t hurt to have a gorgeous view of the Capitol combined with breaking news 6 minutes after the day ended! Can’t wait to keep implementing what I’ve learned.
