This day was a huge win for not only Carolina Pines, but for South Carolina Student Loan and nursing students across the Pee Dee region! In March, Carolina Pines announced our participation in SC Student Loan’s “BOLD Career Pathway Loan Program,” an initiative that offers repayment of student loans to individuals who commit to a career in nursing at the hospital. To celebrate, we held a “Signing Day” where the hospital’s first participant in the program, Emily Tamburrino, officially agreed to terms. Emily is also the first student in the state to participate! Emily is a junior in the nursing program at Coker University, and is set to graduate in August 2024. She will begin her employment as an RN with Carolina Pines after receiving her nursing license. Christy Moody, RN, MSN, CCRN, CPPS, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC), was recognized on October 27 by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of its “CNOs to Know” for 2024. This list recognizes top CNOs across the country for combining clinical expertise and executive leadership to ensure high standards of patient care while tackling nurse staffing shortages, managing nursing budgets, and developing professional growth opportunities for up-and-coming nurses. Nationwide, 213 CNOs were featured in the listing, including two from South Carolina. “It’s an honor to make this prestigious listing and even more so to work with so many incredible professionals at Carolina Pines who make recognitions like this even possible,” said Moody. “We have a wonderful team at Carolina Pines who work tirelessly to provide the best care possible while always putting the patient first. It’s a privilege to lead so many skilled and compassionate caregivers and see the impact they have on our patients every day.” Moody oversees Carolina Pines nursing division, including its operational budget and the scope of work of more than 400 employees. She is responsible for nursing standards and practices in all service areas of the hospital. Earlier this year, she was recognized as one of Becker's 90 Patient Safety Experts to Know in 2024, and in December, she was named the recipient of the South Carolina Hospital Association’s annual “Drive to Zero Harm Leadership Award,” one of the highest honors bestowed upon a healthcare professional by the organization. During Moody’s tenure as CNO at CPRMC, the hospital moved from a "D" grade in 2016 for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group to its current "A" grade, a rating it has held for five consecutive cycles. CPRMC was also named a “Top General Hospital” by The Leapfrog Group in December 2023, one of only 35 hospitals nationwide to earn the designation. In addition, Carolina Pines was recently named one of only three hospitals to earn the “Platinum Award,” ScionHealth’s highest honor as part of the company’s National Quality Strategy. ScionHealth operates 92 hospitals across 28 states. “Christy is a shining example of someone who has grown with our hospital, led by example, and continued to ask from her team the same excellence she puts forth,” said Bill Little, CEO of CPRMC. “In doing so, she has risen to the top nursing position in the building while helping our hospital improve in so many ways, from patient safety to patient experiences and outcomes. She truly is an exceptional CNO deserving of the recognitions she continues to earn.” The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations to compile the 2024 “CNOs to Know” list. Yesterday, Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) held a signing day to welcome two new CNA Youth Apprentices! CPRMC is so excited to welcome these students into this program born out of a partnership with Florence Darlington Technical College and Apprenticeship Carolina. The CNA Youth Apprenticeship program offers students a chance to work as a paid apprentice while obtaining hands on experience in a hospital setting. “This program stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering education, innovation, and excellence in healthcare. As we embark on this journey together, we are filled with anticipation for the achievements and contributions that these students will undoubtedly make during their time with us at Carolina Pines,” said Miranda Peavy, Clinical Talent Acquisition Partner at Carolina Pines. Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is nearing the end of a successful first year participating in the SC Student Loan initiative, BOLD Career Pathways, to address workforce needs while reducing student loan debt. BOLD Career Pathways grew from an idea developed by South Carolina Student Loan to expand their impact beyond their anchored products. This approach connects students with employers willing to hire them and help pay off student loans. This helps employers attract and retain employees while giving students a quicker path to being debt-free. Carolina Pines was the first hospital in the state of South Carolina to have a student participate in the initiative. The hospital now has seven students in the program, with three of those students expected to graduate with their nursing degree this year. The hospital will accept eight students in the fall of this year, to assist in keeping the nursing pipeline full, as hospitals across the country are continuously facing serious staffing challenges, especially in the nursing ranks. “We are thrilled to offer this program as a means to attract healthcare professionals, especially in areas of great need, such as nursing,” said Bill Little, CPRMC CEO. “This program helps make CPRMC an even more appealing place to work and no doubt will further strengthen our relationship with nursing programs across the state.” We are excited to welcome these students to the Carolina Pines family!
