Over the weekend, ICE agents abducted Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student activist and green card holder, as he and his wife were returning to their Columbia University-owned apartment. As Jews, we stand against this heinous violation of civil liberties and reject the false premise that silencing Palestinian voices makes Jews safer. If this administration cared about Jewish people or wanted to end antisemitism, it would be upholding our freedoms to speak, study, and stand up for our families and our beliefs. Abducting a recent Columbia University graduate who is Palestinian and tearing him away from his pregnant wife is an affront to freedom and safety for all of us, Jewish people included. This is a blatant example of how this administration uses antisemitism as a smokescreen to enact its plans to bully, blame, and ban people – plans that have nothing to do with Jewish people or our safety. Jewish people won't be used as an excuse to justify unjust actions of despots – we know where that kind of division ends up. Call Congress today to demand the release of Mahmoud Kalil. We end antisemitism by locking arms across religions, races, and genders and insisting that freedom and safety is for ALL OF US – no exceptions. Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice

关于我们
CJJ is a grassroots network committed to creating a more just, fair, and compassionate North Carolina. We build relationships where people help each other because individuals have a profound responsibility for the well-being of the whole. Founded in March 2013, Carolina Jews for Justice combines advocacy and education to organize a non-partisan Jewish voice for justice in North Carolina. We work to influence policy at the local and state levels and encourage individuals and Jewish institutions to take a stand on important issues in our community.

#JewishJustice Giving Day is a new national giving day for affiliates of the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable. #JJGD provides an opportunity to make giving a more central and visible part of Jewish justice activism and philanthropy. We collectively uplift the importance of investing in Jewish social justice as a core expression in Jewish life. As we look to the first of many annual #JewishJustice Giving Days, we are energized by the opportunity of creating a better future, together. We approach that work with faith in the Jewish community’s evergreen commitment to justice. Our very first #JewishJustice Giving Day is today!!!! - Wednesday, February 26, 2025. This date was chosen to connect to Shabbat Shekalim on the Jewish calendar (which begins on Friday, February 28). On Shabbat Shekalim, we recall that our ancestors were asked to contribute half of a Biblical shekel to meet the needs of the community as a whole. On #JewishJustice Giving Day, we act on our tradition of tzedakah (giving) as one way of supporting justice work. Please consider making a contribution to CJJ and/or another Roundtable partner. CJJ is excited to open the search for our next Executive Director. As we get ready to say good-bye to our beloved current ED, Abby Lublin, in March, we look forward to building upon the foundation Abby’s dedication, passion, personal charisma, chutzpah and doggedness have helped to create. CJJ is more than an organization — we are a community, a movement, and a sacred space where Jewish values guide us in the fight for equity, dignity, and collective liberation. Together, we build bridges across differences, mobilize for justice, and stand resolutely against forces of oppression seeking to harm the most vulnerable among us. The next ED has some pretty big shoes to fill. Whoever you are, you’ll also have a great team of lay leaders, volunteers and staff standing next to you as we usher in the next phase in CJJ’s mission of creating a more just, fair and compassionate North Carolina.?

I was appreciative for the opportunity to discuss how best to combat #antisemitism with Charlotte media earlier this year, after yet another antisemitic incident in North Carolina. “Antisemitism isn’t just a problem that affects Jewish people, and more importantly, it’s not a problem that’s going to be solved by Jewish people. And again, that’s in the same way that Black liberation is not just a Black people problem, and homophobia is not just a queer people problem. People should care about it because it’s morally wrong, and if it happens to my community or another marginalized community, then it’s surely going to eventually come around to them."
