During our November 2024 board meeting, ZSR’s Board of Trustees awarded 108 grants totaling $19.2 million to organizations working toward state-level systemic change in North Carolina. The grants support nonprofit organizations working to change policies, power structures and other root causes of challenges so that all North Carolinians can lead fulfilling lives. As I nurture relationships with my students, I learn of their biggest dreams and their worst fears. Especially when it comes to following a path that their loved ones may not understand. This is how I am able to organize events that will expose them to resources, information and people/organizations that validate and uplift them as individuals. With a panel comprised of my friends and peers, the "Small Town, Bigger Dreams" event did just that. After hearing about each panelists' experience with being the first ones in their family to leave their small town to pursue a life outside of it, many of them were motivated. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ?? S/o to the panelists for taking the time to be a part of this event. Some of their most profound responses are attached below! As a young black woman who is a first generation (HBCU) college graduate from Kinston, North Carolina, it is a privilege to be testament of perseverance and success. I am honored to serve as a resource and plant seeds that will support them along their individual journeys. Being a college adviser through Carolina College Advising Corps truly allows me to be the person that I needed when I was younger. I am forever indebted to this organization. This year I have the amazing opportunity to be a part of LeaderCorps through my second year of AmeriCorps service with the Carolina College Advising Corps. Last weekend we had a retreat at White Lake, NC, which was a great weekend full of making connections, learning, and professional growth. We completed service projects in the community of White Lake, learned how to use fire extinguishers, and a few of us got to speak at the White Lake Town Hall about the importance of AmeriCorps programs in NC. This was a great kickoff to our service year, and I'm excited for what we'll accomplish in the future! Our lake house also had some amazing views of the water, and we saw some gorgeous sunsets!

I am beyond grateful to announce that I've completed my LatinxEd Fellowship! This experience has been transformative, offering invaluable mentorship, professional development, and a strong network of inspiring Latinx leaders dedicated to uplifting our community! Through this fellowship, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the challenges and opportunities in Latinx education and advocacy, collaborate with passionate peers and mentors committed to driving change, gain tools and insights to expand my impact, and learn how to advocate more effectively for a community that means so much to me. Thank you to everyone at LatinxEd for your guidance and support, and to my fellow cohort members for reassuring me that I'm on the right path and am not alone in this work. I feel more empowered than ever and for that, I am forever grateful. I look forward to staying connected and to continue to do this work together!

Oh the places you’ll go! I’ve successfully planned, executed and chaperoned over 10 college tours in the past year! I’m so grateful to the parents of my amazing students for trusting me to expose their students to various higher education institutions that we have right here in North Carolina. I truly appreciate the unwavering support of my principals, counselors, staff, and chaperones, whose efforts make these field trips possible. Most of all, I am grateful to the Carolina College Advising Corps for giving me the chance to positively impact the lives of students in my hometown of Rockingham County. Today I started my new adventure with California State University, Northridge Athletics as an Athletics Event Management Assistant!?? Huge shoutout to Terrance Knighten, M.Ed for bringing me onto the team!! I am beyond excited to take on this new role and for the the 2024-2025 season to get started! Go Matadors! ??
