关于我们
The Carole Robertson Center for Learning is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, enriching, and empowering children and families through comprehensive child and family development programs, including early childhood education (ages 0-5), out-of-school-time programs (ages 5-17); and comprehensive, customized family support programs. The Center serves nearly 2000 children and families in 27 communities throughout Chicago, from diverse settings including three flagship sites in Little Village, North Lawndale, and Albany Park; in partner schools and community-based centers; home-based providers; and home visiting for expectant parents and their young children. Programs serve children at every stage of development, from before birth through age 17. All programs are bilingual in English and Spanish. Children with special needs are welcome in all programs. The Carole Robertson Center for Learning is named in memory of Carole Robertson, one of four girls – along with Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, and Denise McNair – killed in the 1963 racially motivated bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, during the Civil Rights Movement.

This month, we continue to celebrate and empower voices in our community by honoring #NativeAmericanHistoryMonth! A big thank you to our Social Justice and Equity committee for providing cross-cultural literature to our children and families. It’s important to learn about Native American languages, food, culture, and the injustices the community faces, to help preserve this rich history. “We Are Water Protectors” by author Carole Lindstrom and illustrator Michaela Goade issues a powerful rallying cry to safeguard the Earth’s water from harm and corruption—inviting young readers to join the fight. ????

Last week, our President and CEO Bela Moté , Chief Programs and Impact Officer, Sonja Crum Knight, PhD, Senior Director of Community Based Advocacy, Julissa C. and Albany Park Site Director Tonia Holden Masters in ECA, and Facilities Manager, Ahsan Akbar spoke on our programs and impact along with the history of the Center at the National Head Start Association Region 5 Conference. As a part of the conference, we hosted guests at our Albany Park flagship site. Attendees interacted with our history through artifact tables, children's artwork, and activities that our Social Justice and Equity Committee procured. Guests also took a tour of the building and met some of our amazing preschool teachers!

At the Carole Robertson Center, we believe in the strength of community and the power of our collective voice. Thank you to our Advocacy Committee for inspiring us all to take action and vote in yesterday's election. We lead by example, imparting to our young learners this lesson: Your voice matters today, tomorrow, and every day. Our children count on us to advocate for them—that's why we as an organization commit steadfastly to preserving and advancing policies and systems that benefit the wellbeing of those we serve. Together, we can continue to push for the educational opportunities, resources, and support that will empower the next generation to thrive. #YourVoiceMatters #AdvocacyInAction

The Carole Robertson Center for Learning mourns the loss of Barbara Bowman—an educator in the truest sense and a strident advocate for children and families. Her mark on the early education sector is indelible, and her commitment to advancing social justice through educational equity lives on in all of us.
Barbara Taylor Bowman, pioneer in the field of early childhood and legendary co-founder of Erikson Institute, passed away on November 4, 2024 at the age of 96. The entire Erikson community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees and donors mourns the loss of a woman whose contributions are many and whose spirit inspired generations of leaders. https://bit.ly/4htmYM5 #btb #barbarataylorbowman #barbarabowman #eriksoninstitute

The youth in our programs may not be old enough to vote yet, but they know their voices matter and are using them to spread an important message: Vote! Young learners' lives will be shaped by the choices we make today. Make accessible, high-quality education and care a reality for our nation's children and families by heading to the polls. ??? #yourvotematters
