Recognizing all those who have served on this Veterans Day. CARMAN is proud to work with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs to create spaces that serve and honor those who have given so much for our country. Thank you to our veterans for their dedication and sacrifice!
关于我们
CARMAN was founded in 1980 with a philosophy of providing sensitive planning and design with an eye for the integration of technically sound responses to the immediate and surrounding environment. CARMAN has met the challenges of this philosophy with a broad range of experience with both the public and private markets. The commitment of our staff of Landscape Architects and Civil Engineers to each client has gained our firm the reputation of meeting unique demands of complex and challenging projects. Our staff listens to our clients and creates an understanding of their needs. The integration of Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Ecology, and Civil Engineering places our staff in a unique position to provide quality and timely consultation. Landscape Architecture is a balance of economic growth, development, and environmental preservation. These components are mutually supportive and fundamentally interdependent objectives. The contemporary landscape is for the most part artificial, a composition of different components both design and undesigned. This allows CARMAN the freedom to respond creatively in a playful and optimistic manner. Seamless integration between disciplines allows our studio the ability for the built and natural to interact, positioning the environment to take possession of a space.

Now open in Lexington, the University of Kentucky's Gray Design Building epitomizes our design approach of “starting with what’s there”–in this case, reinventing a 100-year-old tobacco warehouse into a 21st-century hub for cross-disciplinary design education. Built in 1917, the former Reynolds Building—with its open interior floors, repetitive structural grid, and distinct moments of sectional variation—offered a promising framework for uniting all of the College’s departments for the first time, while accommodating future growth. To maximize interaction among people and disciplines, and expand opportunities for making and experimentation, the design harnesses these existing conditions and bends them in a new direction. This project has been a wonderful collaboration with the University of Kentucky College of Design, K. Norman Berry Associates Architects PLLC, Brown + Kubican Structural Engineers, CMTA, Inc., CARMAN, PritchardPeck Lighting, Ayoroa | Simmons, LLC, Turner Construction Company, and many more! We can’t wait to see how new generations of young design talent will make this building their own. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eZnAq8eN Images ? Tom Harris

Last week we celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the Joint Force Headquarters at Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort, KY!? ? Master-planned by CARMAN along with Omni Architects in 2011, this project has been a long time coming, starting with a vision in 2005. After Federal funding was secured in 2020, design and construction moved forward, leading to today’s event with Governor Beshear, Brigadier General King (Retired), and Adjutant General Lamberton. The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured a military band and C-130 flyover to celebrate the new facility. Proud to see this project come to life!? ? #LandscapeArchitecture #MasterPlan #RibbonCutting #Kentucky?
