On Monday, CARITAS Chief Advancement Officer Clara Stokes joined Larry Eason from Richmond Animal League Inc and Stephanie Ford and Scott Warren from Warren Whitney on On the MIC with Mike King on ESPN Richmond to discuss the value of partnerships and the critical work nonprofits do in Richmond. Our Director of Recovery Services, Benjamin Carr, facilitated a REVIVE training session, equipping attendees with the life-saving skills to use naloxone. Overdose deaths in the U.S. are falling for the first time since 2020, but the crisis is far from over. As reported by NPR, "National surveys compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already show an unprecedented?decline in drug deaths of roughly 10.6 percent. That's a huge reversal from recent years when?fatal overdoses regularly increased?by double-digit percentages.” Despite this decrease, overdose fatalities still exceed 100,000 in 2024. At CARITAS, our REVIVE! Trainers are working hard to make a difference. By equipping the community with naloxone and overdose prevention skills, we're joining the national push to get life-saving tools into more hands. While the progress is promising, there is still much work to be done to bring these numbers down further and ensure more lives are saved.
