Elevate: Beyond Wealth, Toward Legacy To elevate is to transcend—the ordinary, the fleeting, the transactional. It’s about shaping a legacy that isn’t just measured in assets but in impact. True elevation means building something that lasts: businesses that create opportunity, investments that drive innovation, and values that inspire generations. Wealth alone fades; influence, vision, and leadership endure. In a world obsessed with returns, real power lies in what you leave behind—ideas that shift industries, networks that empower others, and a legacy that continues to elevate long after you’re gone. The question isn’t just what you build. It’s how high you choose to rise.

Happy 4th of July ???? ?? today is a day to spend today surrounded by those you love, doing things you love, and cherishing the little moments… ?? and, to reflect on the privileges we enjoy in this country because of the hard work and sacrifice our forefathers that afford us the freedoms we have today... As we celebrate, let’s take a moment and truly appreciate what this day signifies and practice gratitude for the freedoms you have and the opportunity to chase BIG dreams. ?????? today is a day to practice gratitude ?? for all that you currently have and keep pushing forward towards a bigger, brighter future… whatever that means for you. ??And, let’s keep in mind the important role our country fills in the world, and to do our best to share the fruits of our freedoms with those less fortunate. ??

About 5.25 trillion tiny pieces of plastic – or more than 600 pieces for each of the three billion people on Earth – have entered the oceans and seas. With artificial intelligence (AI) being presented by scientists and physicians as a cure-all for many problems faced by man, experts are taking a close look at the real potential of this simulation of human intelligence processes by computers and other machines to help deal with them. One of these dilemmas is pollution of the seas by chemicals, metals, microplastics, and oil spills – not to mention excessive fishing and the release of invasive species. ?? https://lnkd.in/eyWzA_sY

So inspired by the dialogue this week on Inclusive Capitalism at the Milken Institute global conference. I’m proud to be part of the Executive Council on Inclusive Capitalism, led by Jarvis Hollingsworth, Blair C. Smith and Troy Duffie. Amazing to work with so many innovative leaders on the Council including Katherine Jollon Colsher, Indhira Arrington and Jason Howard, three of Apollo’s close partners in expanding opportunities in asset management through AltFinance, Girls Who Invest, and New Catalyst Strategic Partners.

European Parliament approved the EU to withdraw from the Energy Charter Treaty The treaty is an international accord safeguarding energy investments, citing concerns that it hampers efforts to combat climate change. It was established in 1998, enabling energy companies to legally challenge governmental policies detrimental to their investments. Notably, companies have utilised this mechanism to seek compensation for regulations necessitating the closure of fossil fuel facilities. ??The EU's decision to exit the treaty aligns with its objective to prioritise climate action and transition towards renewable energy sources. Proposed as a collective departure, several EU member states, including Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands, have independently announced intentions to withdraw, largely motivated by climate considerations. This move, endorsed by the European Parliament, signifies a significant step towards reinforcing climate protection initiatives and reducing legal and financial burdens incurred by taxpayers due to arbitration and compensation payments to multinational corporations. Addressing climate change in a timely manner is paramount for businesses and governments alike. As the global community faces escalating environmental challenges, such as rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss, it is imperative to adopt proactive measures to mitigate these impacts. Timely action not only fosters environmental sustainability but also bolsters economic resilience and enhances competitiveness in the evolving market landscape. By aligning policies and strategies with climate objectives, businesses can capitalize on emerging opportunities in renewable energy, green technologies, and sustainable practices, thereby securing long-term viability and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come. #sustainability #esg #decarbonisation #co2emissions #energy #renewableenergy

The EU Corporate Sustainability Due Dilligence Directive is officially adopted! The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is an important new EU legislation that will have significant financial implications for businesses. Here is a summary of the key points: ??The CSDDD requires companies to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for adverse human rights and environmental impacts in their own operations, subsidiaries and value chains. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to 5% of a company's global net revenue. ??The directive applies to large EU companies with over 500 employees and €150 million in global turnover, as well as non-EU companies with over €150 million in EU turnover. Smaller companies in high-impact sectors like fashion, agriculture and mining are also included if they have over 250 employees and €40 million in global turnover. ??The CSDDD will force companies to allocate more resources to sustainability, including expanding teams, implementing due diligence processes, and potentially terminating business relationships. This will likely increase operational costs and impact profitability. ??Additionally, the directive introduces civil liability, allowing victims to claim compensation from companies for damages caused by human rights or environmental violations. In summary, the CSDDD is a major piece of EU legislation that will require substantial sustainability efforts from in-scope companies. Failure to comply could result in fines and liability, making it a critical issue for businesses to address in order to protect their revenue. Here is a comprehensive guide about the legislation here: https://lnkd.in/eFU-ZfCa #csddd #emissions #decarbonisation #duedilligence #esg #eu #europeanparliament

Empathy vs Compassion: Understanding the key differences in leadership. Is being a compassionate leader better than being an empathetic one? ? Empathy and compassion are two different mental states, as demonstrated by neuroscience and brain imaging. ? Being empathetic means being able to understand and share the thoughts and feelings of others. ? When we empathize, we identify with the other person and adopt their emotions as our own. ? Compassion is the desire to be of service to others. ? When we are compassionate, we take a step back from empathy ? And consider how we can help someone who is having a hard time. ? To manage a sustainable organization, Balance the needs of various stakeholders, We sometimes have to put empathy aside. ? When you exhibit empathy, you become a reflection of others' feelings. ? That makes it difficult to think about the bigger picture and make the right choices. ? You must be empathetic on a human level while still conducting business with compassion. ? Compassionate leaders are less likely to experience burnout than empathic leaders. ? Due to their attention to the greater good, Rather than the welfare of one individual, Compassionate leaders are more likely, To encourage diversity and inclusion. ? According to research, compassion positively impacts: ? Productivity Employee engagement Customer retention Profitability Financial performance ? So how do you develop compassion? ? 1. Identify the needs of people ? Allow the individual to think about how you can best assist them and guide the way forward. ? 2. Self-care is a good idea ? Experiencing emotional exhaustion is a possibility for leaders. ? Find ways to maintain your resilience, sense of balance, and self-awareness. ? Mindfulness can be helpful and is adopted widely by leaders. ? 3. Elicit a strong emotional response ? People in pain want their emotions to be acknowledged. ? Don't start thinking about solutions before you've established emotional resonance. ? A leader's capacity for compassion is frequently disregarded or viewed as a non-essential quality. ? Some even assert that it can make the leader appear frail. ? But this could not be further from the truth. ? While empathy can lead to exhaustion, compassion can boost our resilience and response to challenging events. ? Are you a compassionate leader? Be Bold. Be Daring. Be Different! ? #thoughtleadership #layoff #leadershipskills #ceoleadership #peoplemanagement
