  • Fifteen years ago today, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law, which expanded and strengthened Medicaid coverage for millions of disabled and aging people, and their caregivers, allowing them to access the care they need. We can’t go back now. We won’t let cuts to Medicaid happen! That’s why, over the last week, caregivers, care recipients, and care advocates from across the country rallied and visited our elected leaders to make it clear just how important Medicaid is for the over 80 million people across the country who depend on it for life-saving and life-sustaining health care. #WhereMyLoreStarted #ACAAnniversary #ProtectMedicaid

    • Former President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law surrounded by Vice President Joe Biden, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other officials, with a young onlooker, captioned 'where my lore started.'
  • In Georgia, we continued our #ProtectMedicaid Week of Action by holding meetings with the offices of Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnockto show them that there are millions of real people across the state that depend on Medicaid to survive. During our visit, we delivered a Protect Medicaid petition with nearly 2,000 signatures, urging elected leaders to do all they can to protect the program. We’re grateful to our partners Campaign For A Family Friendly Economy, National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), Georgia STAND-UP, We Dream in Black, New Disabled South, and MomsRising for joining us in our efforts to protect the over 1.9 million people across Georgia who rely on Medicaid every day.

  • Our #ProtectMedicaid Week of Action continued in Michigan, where we kicked off a day of meetings in Lansing with Representative Thomas Barrett followed by a meeting in Detroit with Senator Elissa Slotkin’s office. We also joined SEIU Healthcare Michigan for a rally outside of Representative John James’ office where caregivers and care recipients shared their personal stories and how cutting Medicaid would impact their lives. Hundreds of care advocates came together with one clear message—#HandsOffMedicaid. https://lnkd.in/eeuDP39P

  • Coming this spring: “Caregiving," a new two-hour documentary ??? executive produced by Bradley Cooper. Through intimate footage and interviews, the film follows a diverse group of caregivers and care recipients sharing their personal stories of challenge and triumph, as well as leaders on the frontlines of the care movement – including Caring Across and our partners! We are so grateful to be an official partner on this film, which shines a light on just how much care is at the center of our lives and communities. When we recognize care as a universal experience — something we all give or receive at some point — we can see our connections to one another more clearly and build systems that truly work for everyone. ?? Mark those calendars because you'll be able to stream it on PBS.org and the PBS app starting May 27, 2025! And catch the nationwide broadcast on PBS stations on June 24, 2025 at 9/8c

  • Rather than fulfilling campaign promises, this administration continues to target families in pursuit of a political agenda. Eliminating the Education Department is not only a bad decision – it’s also an intentional act of disruption, meant to keep the public confused and scared. This move will have an outsized impact on disabled students and their families, since federal dollars fund one-third of all special education services in this country. Attacks on federal agencies and programs designed to help our country’s children and disabled people will still continue unless Congress steps in and takes action to protect our families. If we don’t push back now, we’ll see more policies designed to destabilize programs that families rely on every day.

  • Yesterday, alongside our partners seiu-uhw, the California Alliance for Retired Americans, UDW, Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network, National Domestic Workers Alliance and #FightForOurHealth, we joined hundreds of caregivers, care recipients, and advocates in Anaheim, CA for a rally to #ProtectMedicaid in front of California Congressmember U.S. Representative Young Kim's office. Stay tuned throughout the week to find out where we’re taking action next! You can read the LATimes article about the rally here: https://lnkd.in/eST8Sx6V

  • You know and love someone who depends on Medicaid. Cuts to Medicaid would have devastating impacts on 80 million people across the country. These cuts could put millions of children, families, aging and disabled people at risk of losing life-saving health care services. We can’t let cuts to Medicaid happen. We won’t let it happen. That’s why we’re taking action this week in the states to #ProtectMedicaid! Stay tuned for more updates on how to take action this week and beyond.

    • Graphic that says, "What would Medicaid cuts mean for California? Over 13 million people in California rely on Medicaid for their health care -
that’s 1 in 3 people! Medicaid (ALSO CALLED MEDI-CAL) is a lifeline for millions across California – many of whom would not
have health care without it."
    • Graphic that says, "What would Medicaid cuts mean for Illinois? 1 in 4 people in Illinois use Medicaid for health care! that’s over 3 million people! In 2024, Illinois became the first state in the nation to use Medicaid funds to help cover assistance with nutrition, housing, and violence reduction and prevention.

All of this, alongside critical health care, would be jeopardized if Congress makes cuts to Medicaid funding."
    • Graphic that says, "What would Medicaid cuts mean for Michigan? Over 2.9 million
people in Michigan depend on
Medicaid for their health care. Cuts to Medicaid could result in nearly a third of all Michiganders losing their health care."
    • Graphic that says, "What would Medicaid cuts mean for Georgia? 1.9 million people in Georgia use Medicaid for essential healthcare services. If cuts to Medicaid happened, millions of children, and aging and disabled adults across Georgia could lose their health care."

  • Medicaid is under threat, and millions of people could lose the care they rely on. That's why we're coming together for a #ProtectMedicaid Week of Action—to fight back and make our voices heard. This week, we're mobilizing in communities across the country and gathering at state representative offices to demand strong, fully funded Medicaid programs that meet the needs of every family. Joined by caregivers, people with disabilities, aging community members, and allied advocates we're headed to California, Michigan, Georgia, and Illinois to hold our elected officials accountable and push for bold action to strengthen our nation's care infrastructure. Because we all know that #CareCantWait.
