  • 35 years ago today, disability activists crawled up the steps of the U.S. Capitol building – demonstrating with their bodies what the lack of disability justice costs us. Their actions at the Capitol Crawl paved the path for the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Today, we remember and honor the actions they took, and we continue in the fight for disability justice by fighting for a care system that we can all depend on. In the spirit of that fight, our Tory Cross joined other members of our team at a rally to protect our healthcare today at the Capitol. Of the nearly 80 million people who rely on Medicaid, 10 million are disabled people – we won’t stop fighting not just to protect Medicaid but expand it so we can create a care system that serves all of us. #ProtectMedicaid

  • Attacks on diversity, disability, and Medicaid are attacks on millions of families. As our Nicole Jorwic told Axios, rolling back support for disabled people “harkens back to the time when people with disabilities were put behind closed doors instead of being celebrated and supported.” We won’t go back. We need policies that uplift caregivers and care recipients—not push them further to the margins. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eRBeVSSC #ProtectMedicaid

  • On National Caregivers Day, we were reminded just how important it is to celebrate care in all its forms in our lives. ?? We were so grateful to be recognized with an award at an event hosted by care advocate and author Kelley Coleman and Stephanie Bohn, founder of Truly Care! It was an inspiring celebration that honored caregivers in the Los Angeles area, reminding us how care connects us all. Our Director of Culture Change, Lydia Storie, was joined by our regional organizing manager Juan Carlos Guerrero, as well as several advocate partners, including television producer Tom Chiodo, author Elissa Strauss, podcast host Jessica Patay and Care Fellow alum Shawn Francis.

  • We’ve been hearing a lot about “waste” and “fraud” in Medicaid, but what’s the truth in those claims? For #MedicaidMinute, we break down just how efficient this program is – and why the claims of fraud and abuse are just a distraction. As Congress contemplates at least $880 billion in Medicaid cuts, we’ll make it clear: we won’t take any cuts or concessions to our life-saving care. #ProtectMedicaid

  • We’re imagining a better future for care. Former Care Fellow Jonelle Robinson shared her vision for a better future for care – one where care is expansive, community-centric, financially accessible, and destigmatized. We couldn’t agree more. This February, we not only want to look back at the intersections between Black history and care, but we also want to celebrate the futures that Black caregivers and care recipients are building together. #BlackFutures
