????Congratulations to Karen DeSalvo and the entire Google team on the global launch of their open Medical Record APIs in Health Connect!!! These APIs enable apps to read and write medical record information to their own device in FHIR format. It’s privacy preserving and completely consumer consent based. With Health Connect, your data is stored locally on your device, and you’re in full control of which apps have access to your data and what kind of data is shared with those apps. This is exactly what we have been promoting in the CARIN Alliance for the last 9 years!! ???????? This is truly a full circle moment for us. In 2016, when she was the National Coordinator for the ONC, we worked closely with her to develop a vision and roadmap for how consumers can access more of their health information when, where, and how they want to achieve their goals. At the time, it seemed like an impossible dream. This dream has now become a reality for all consumers globally. We could not be more excited. Thank you Karen and the entire Google team for your work to help make this happen!! ?? ?? INCREDIBLE progress in providing individuals with more health care data access with less friction across a national network!! We are so excited to see a consumer be able to use A SINGLE LOG IN to access their health information across athenahealth and CommonWell Health Alliance using CLEAR and b.well Connected Health at HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition next week. No more "portalitis"!!! Many thanks to Kristen Valdes, David Bardan, Paul Wilder, Liz Lewis, Sam Lambson, and the many others who helped make this happen! This has been our dream since the Fall of 2017 when we first recommended to the ONC that we should be moving to accept IAL2 digital identity credentials everywhere in health care. We are excited to see more QHINs and networks adopt this approach in the future!

?? We had an incredible CARIN Alliance community meeting on 1/29 discussing how far we've come with consumers digitally accessing their health care data from any payer or provider in the country. Our goal is to unlock data using OIDC & a SINGLE OAuth, ID-proofed IAL2 credential that is certified by the Kantara Initiative enabling access to all FHIR API endpoints in production. We got closer to that reality by doing two digital ID federation demos during our meeting: 1) IAS on TEFCA using RLS: Epic, b.well Connected Health, CLEAR, and CommonWell Health Alliance demonstrated a "first in the nation" pilot that included using the validated demographics within a CLEAR credential coupled with RLS on TEFCA to show the provider portals where a patient's records can be found. https://lnkd.in/e9BGVNDe 2) IAL2 Federation using Carequality: Selfii, MedAllies, Connie, and CLEAR used the validated demographics in a single IAL2 credential to access health records on the Connie HIE using Carequality which was also a "first in the nation" workflow. We applaud and support this work! More data with less friction! What's next? - The CARIN Alliance will submit a LEAP grant proposal to the ONC to expand this work and improve IAS on TEFCA. If you want to join us, please reach out! - Our goal is for all EHRs and health plans to accept all of OpenID Connect which would allow individuals to authenticate once in the application of their choice using the identity provider of their choice so their chosen app can then use a combination of the FHIR API endpoints, QHINs, and RLS to access their health information from any payer/provider in the country. This would also allow them to unlock additional features such as: selecting a provider, booking an online appointment, price transparency info, claims info, submission of their digital insurance card, real-time pharmacy benefit check, additional check-in information, and more. Incredible gift to the community!! Thank you Andrew Arruda, Joshua Kelly, Angela Liu, and Flexpa for this OPEN and FREE health plan FHIR endpoint directory that includes links to the health plan developer portals. The directory includes many of the recommendations we have made for how to publish FHIR endpoints so application developers can connect on behalf of consumers. It will also be a huge help for providers and health plans who need to be in compliance with the CMS-0057-F prior authorization rule. More data for patients and others with less friction!!! ????????????

Today is a big day for #FHIR ?? in #TEFCA. Our member b.well Connected Health just demonstrated how they leveraged CommonWell Health Alliance as their #QHIN to query for a patient's data for #IAS using the FHIR standard and retrieving data from the patient's Epic hospital during the CARIN Alliance digital identity meeting. This is the first example of #FHIR testing via #TEFCA that we have seen to date, and I am beyond proud of the hard work that the b.well team put in here. Here at CommonWell, we enable Patient Access/IAS both for those who want to initiate queries and for those who respond. We encourage our connected organizations to respond to IAS and are proud to support it in TEFCA - both in document exchange and FHIR exchange. Patients must be able to access their own health data, regardless of where their care has occurred. #InteropDoneRight #PatientAccess
