Last week was a busy one for conferences in our region—and clinicians from across our system did a great job representing us while sharing their work and insights! Annie Ickes, DO, Carilion Mental Health, headed to Huntington, West Virginia, to take part in a panel discussion titled 'Big Bet Against Overdoses,' focusing on public mental health and the healthcare community's response to our region's overdose crisis. The discussion was funded by The Rockefeller Foundation and facilitated by the McChrystal Group. Meanwhile in Charlottesville, Va., members of our Research & Development team attended the ACRP - Association of Clinical Research Professionals Virginia Chapter's fall symposium, where they moderated a panel titled "Streamlining Study Start-Up Activities" and took part in talks on responsible oversight of artificial intelligence in clinical research.

Our first in-person HeartNet Cardiac Symposium since 2019 is happening now! Cardiovascular care team members from across our region are sharing about advances in treatment at this annual event, which we host in partnership with HeartNet of the Virginias. Congratulations to Greg Madsen, VP and CEO of Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, and Kristie Williams, VP and CEO of Carilion Giles Community Hospital! They were recognized in Becker's Hospital Review's list of 90 critical access hospital CEOs to know. Critical access hospitals have no more than 25 inpatient beds and offer 24/7 emergency care. They are vital resources in their communities, making Greg and Kristie's leadership so important in our Lexington, Giles and Tazewell areas.

The LIFT Center at Fallon Park Elementary's impact grew through its second year in operation—as pediatric medical visits increased 166% and new mental health counselors joined the team! It's our privilege to partner with Delta Dental of Virginia, Freedom First Credit Union and Roanoke City Public Schools to provide vital services for southeast Roanoke students and their families through the LIFT Center.
