Last week, 15 athletes who will be representing the Cayman Islands at the 2025 CARIFTA Games in Trinidad & Tobago were named at the CARIFTA Track & Field Team Announcement Event held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. For 39 years, CUC has sponsored and partnered with Cayman Athletics and its endeavours, particularly the CUC CARIFTA Trials, the CARIFTA Games, the Team Announcement Event, and travel expenses for the Team. Just wrapped up one of the most interesting projects I’ve had the chance to lead - a new 69kV Substation GIS for Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. This one’s been in the works for a while. We started planning back in 2021, and spent the last couple of years working through design, logistics, construction, and plenty of challenges along the way. But thanks to a great team and strong partnerships, it’s now live, and already delivering more resilient, reliable power across the island. This project stands out not only for its technology, but for what it enables: safe, reliable power for the Cayman Islands today, and a robust foundation for future renewable energy integration. Big thanks to everyone who helped bring this to life — Hitachi Energy, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), Leidos , Britthay, Southwire Company, and so many others. Your flexibility, commitment, and teamwork made all the difference. Feels good when a long-term vision becomes a real, working part of the grid.
