I’ve always believed in showing up for my team—not just at work, but in life. So, today, I made a choice. At 2 p.m., I stepped out of the office right in the middle of a busy afternoon. I didn’t have a client call or an emergency to attend to. I wasn’t apologizing for missing a deadline or scrambling to catch up. I left because my son had just scored his first goal in a soccer game, and I promised him I’d be there. It wasn’t a big corporate moment. It wasn’t something anyone would necessarily notice, but to me, it was everything. As a leader, I want my team to know that their lives outside of work matter. It’s not about how many hours you put in; it’s about how we show up for each other. I don’t need to hide my priorities or feel guilty for taking time to be present for my family, and neither should anyone on my team. So if you need to step out for a doctor’s appointment, to help your child with homework, or just to recharge for a bit, do it.
