Since the initial telehealth legislation passed during the stay-at-home orders in 2020, our members have been building the very programs that are now making a massive impact on digitally enabled care — transforming care delivery workflows and funnels to make digital a part of regular care. ATA Action continues to lead efforts to reinstate lapsed policies and make telehealth a permanent option. They are fully committed to this mission and to advancing the work these initial provisions have made possible. As ATA Action focuses on advocacy, the American Telemedicine Association and our incredible CODE team, Clinician Council, and SIGs will define the benchmarks, workflows, and standards that bring this vision to life and will advance the work of our industry.? Looking ahead, at NEXUS in May, the ATA will bring together top teams from across our membership to collaborate with peers, attend educational sessions, learn directly from our Center of Digital Excellence health systems about their leading programs, and build on our Insights Summits — all with a focus on expanding and scaling these efforts across healthcare delivery. With telehealth flexibilities extended until September 2025, we continue to go deeper — focusing on cost-effectiveness, workflow advancements, patient behavior change, change management, and building clinical trust in our work. Big win for telehealth! Last night, Congress prevented millions of Americans from being cut off from essential healthcare services by passing a federal government spending bill that included short-term extensions for essential telehealth provisions through September 30, 2025. The short-term extensions include?Medicare Telehealth Flexibilities, enabling telehealth visits to occur from a wider range of locations, including the patient’s home. It also permits additional qualified provider types to deliver virtual care. The?Acute Hospital Care at Home Program?was also extended through September, allowing Medicare-certified hospitals to furnish inpatient-level care in patients’ homes. However, there were other essential telehealth provisions that had expired or were excluded from the bill, creating continued uncertainty and block millions of individuals from accessing needed care. We must stop this telehealth rollercoaster and restore the confidence of patients and clinicians, to know that our healthcare system will not let them down when they need it most. We remain grateful to Congress and the Trump administration for their continued support of telehealth and will continue to push for permanency and reestablishment of all telehealth provisions.
