On November 21, 2024, Career Connect NW brought STEM Like ME!? to 85 Nooksack Valley Middle School students in 7th and 8th grades. Students rotated in small groups through STEM stations to engage in hands-on activities with local employer presenters from industry to learn more about high-wage, high-demand careers. Students surveyed showed a 92% increase in STEM career knowledge after the event! A huge thank you to participating employers and presenters from bp’s Cherry Point Refinery, Whatcom Working Waterfront Coalition’s Northwest Maritime Aaprenticeship, Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA), and Kacie Guthrie UX Design. We also appreciate our guide leader volunteers from FuturesNW, Seed to STEM, Northwest Educational Service District 189, and the folks from NOOKSACK VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT who helped make this event possible!

Career Connected Learning Specialist Mary Powers worked with Orcas Island High School to bring seniors to Sierra Pacific Industries in Burlington, Washington, today to learn about careers in Modern Manufacturing. From entry-level to skilled trades, sawfilers, truck drivers, foresters, engineers, industrial electricians, millwrights, and more-SPI is one of the largest U.S. lumber manufacturers and offers in-house training for many positions for people ages 18+. Thank you to Sierra Pacific Industries for hosting these students!
