Yall PLS start making connections before recruiting season . Summer internship recruiting season starts around August or September and ends around March. That means you need to start building connections with people at your company of interest in the next couple of months!!!! And when I say connections, I don’t mean transactional ones. Let’s say you meet with someone once in April. Follow them on LinkedIn Message them for a call within the next week Engage with their posts consistently Message them again for a follow up call in June and another one in August. Actually listen and learn from them. One of my favorite things students do is actually try to get to know me outside of my job and outside of what I do on LinkedIn. There is nothing better than when someone genuinely checks in on you periodically to see how you’re doing and provide you with updates regarding how they’ve been doing as well! At the end of the day, despite all the tech gadgets and social media, the main thing we crave as humans is real connection. Make people remember you for how good they felt when they were talking to you! Need help starting your first message? I got you ?For an initial message with someone you haven’t met: Hi [insert name], I recently came across one of your posts on LinkedIn and I was inspired by what you do with [insert company or thing they’re working on]. I’m currently a student at [insert university] interested in this field of work. Would you be open to us having a 15 minute coffee chat? ?For your first coffee chat with someone you met in person: Hi [insert name] It was so nice meeting you at [insert place] last week. I was amazed by your passion for [insert topic or job]! I would love if we could continue our conversation about [insert topic]. Would you be open to reconnecting for 15-20 minutes sometime over the next few weeks? ?Follow up message: Hi [insert name], I wanted to check in to see how you’ve been doing over the past couple of weeks! I really enjoyed our last conversation! It really resonated with me when you said [insert statement]. I’ve been thinking about how I can implement [insert thing or topic] in my life. Would you be open to us having another call to discuss? ——————————————————————— Also don’t forget to follow Care to Elaborate Podcast for more insights!
