关于我们
Based in Charlotte, NC, Care Ring leads a collaborative effort to meet our community's changing health care needs and to fight racial and economic disparities in health outcomes. We are a non-profit organization that helps people who fall through the cracks of the health care system in Mecklenburg County. Since 1955, we have been providing uninsured individuals struggling with poverty with access to medical and dental care. One in 10 people die from limited access to health services. Care Ring's goal is to prevent these needless tragedies and build a stronger, healthier community. Our 5 service lines fall under 2 pillars - Access to Care and Maternal-Child Health. Access to Care includes our Low-Cost Clinic; our Physicians Reach Out network of volunteer providers; and The Bridge, our mobile unit. Maternal-Child Health includes our Nurse-Family Partnership and A Guided Journey programs which serve at-risk pregnant and new mothers, providing a range of supportive care and resource connections from pregnancy until the child's second birthday, striving to improve birth and post-natal outcomes and reduce racial and socioeconomic disparities. Care Ring also has social workers and nurse case managers on staff to assist all our clients with accessing wraparound services like counseling, food, housing, medical equipment, medications, and more to remove barriers to living their best, healthiest life. Last year we served 7,800 individuals and their families.

Yesterday, we were honored to host and participate in NC Governor Joshua Stein and NC Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai, MD, JD, MBA roundtable discussion about the importance of Medicaid to the health of 3 million North Carolinians, and retaining the funding for the program nationally and at the state level. Our CEO Tchernavia Montgomery, MSW shared about the impact having Medicaid has had for the formerly uninsured patients we were serving who were able to get more services thanks to gaining coverage through the recent expansion of benefits. And Care Ring client Tashenda Gibson, who participates in our A Guided Journey program for new mothers, shared how having coverage helped her have a healthy pregnancy and baby. The daycare center where she works, like many small businesses, doesn’t offer health insurance, so it’s important she retain coverage. After the discussion, the Governor and Secretary received a tour of our new facility. It’s Tuesday! That means our friends from NC MedAssist are here to help our Clinic and Physicians Reach Out patients get enrolled into their services for free medications that they otherwise couldn’t afford, which supports their overall health and compliance with treatment plans. They are also loving the meeting room at our new location, which is more spacious and has a window, creating a more welcoming and bright environment.

“Art is medicine” - perfectly said Wendy Hickey. Did you know access to art can improve Social Determinants of Health? We hope this mural in our new space by artist Javon Jeter will be calming and cognitively stimulating for our patients. And, we hope they see a reflection of themselves, as we were very intentional about the images portrayed. Javon, thank you for sharing your creative gifts with us. You captured the essence of our organization and those we serve. It certainly evoked emotion from many. The embedded meaning behind some of the images was very special. ?? Jennifer Frey, great work connecting us with ArtPop Street Gallery for this valuable statement piece in our new space! Arts & Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg (ASC)
Care Ring + ArtPop Street Gallery Community partnerships matter. Art is medicine. https://lnkd.in/gf2_Ejkp Yesterday’s ribbon cutting at Care Ring was inspiring & so many community members were there like Susan Rodriguez-McDowell & our friends from Carolina Farm Trust. So proud to partner with another nonprofit on this Inspiration Project at ArtPop Street Gallery. This project commission by artist, Javon Jeter is sure to be great medicine for the patients who deserve to see this meaningful art. Art is healing. Inspiring indeed when two nonprofits come together in the name of art. Thank you Dylan Bannister for the care you give on each project & I know how special this was for you. Beaming with pride yesterday, our local artists making these ideas come true! More to come by Anna Dean, stay tuned. To Tchernavia Montgomery, MSW, Jennifer Frey and the entire Care Ring team, Thank you for supporting the arts & our community in such meaningful ways. ?? Evergreen Creative Projects Thank you for always installing so perfectly! #mural #localartist #smallbusiness #community #confidence #connection #71projects

I will tell this story until my voice no longer allows. Nearly 20 years ago, as a recently unemployed single mother, I knocked on the door of Morris Berg Architects seeking employment. The administrative assistant role I was placed in off an on for several years allowed me to continue my part time education. Three years ago, I ran into Todd Berg at Community Matters Cafe and after sharing with him my leadership journey since last meet, the firm quickly became a Care Ring corporate sponsor in support of our mission and vision. Later, when Care Ring choose to take our leap of faith to build out our new space, they agreed to serve as our architect firm. They truly designed a space for us with love. I will forever be grateful for the kindness and opportunity afforded to me that day by Mr. Berg and the late Kieth Morris. This is a full circle moment that will be etched in my mind and heart forever. Never neglect to show kindness to strangers. Who knows the impact you might have. ??
We were excited to join Care Ring last Thursday for the ribbon cutting of their new space! This new upfit of about 14,000 SF will allow them to reach further into our community and assist those with healthcare needs and food insecurity. I have known Tchernavia Montgomery, MSW for a couple of decades now, and have enjoyed watching her journey from working with us at Morris Berg Architects to becoming CEO of Care Ring and a rising star in our community. It was a chance meeting at breakfast about 3 years ago that reconnected us and led us to become a part of Care Ring's relocation project. Well done T! We sure are proud of you.
