Read Mark’s story and his experiences as a veteran and Care One employee. Thanks for all you do, Mark! “My time in the military has profoundly shaped both my personal and professional life. Serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Heavy Machine Gunner taught me invaluable lessons that continue to guide me today. I learned the importance of critical thinking, discipline, and the power of diversity within a team. These principles have not only prepared me for the challenges in the workplace but have also influenced my approach to life outside of work. I chose to join the Marines at a pivotal moment in my life. I was on a downward spiral, and joining the military provided me with structure, purpose, and direction. Who knows where I’d be today without the Marines? Serving as a Heavy Machine Gunner in the U.S. Marine Corps not only gave me technical skills but also instilled in me a sense of responsibility and a deep understanding of teamwork. Throughout my service, I developed a range of skills that have been instrumental in my civilian career. From leadership and coaching to crisis management and reliability, these qualities have easily transferred into my professional life. Whether it’s supervising a team or staying motivated in tough situations, the lessons I learned in the Marines continue to serve me well. If I could offer one piece of advice to future generations of servicemen and women, it would be simple: be grateful. The experiences and opportunities the military offers can be life-changing, and maintaining an attitude of gratitude will serve you well, both in service and after. Transitioning from military life to a civilian career comes with its own set of challenges. My advice to fellow veterans making this shift is to be patient. Not everyone you encounter in the civilian workplace shares the same experiences or values as those you served with. Understanding and patience are key to navigating these differences and finding your place in a new environment. Being a veteran means putting the needs of others before your own. It’s a reflection of the selflessness and commitment that come with serving your country. Every Veterans Day, I take time to reflect on this sense of duty and honor those who have served alongside me. It’s a day of commemoration and gratitude, not just for myself but for all those who made sacrifices for the greater good. My experience with Care One has been overwhelmingly positive. They have been easy to work with and have supported me whenever I’ve reached out for assistance. Hollie is the Recruiting Manager at Care One. In her role, she relishes the collaborative atmosphere where every team member contributes and supports one another. She also appreciates the opportunity to infuse her creativity and express her individuality in her work and interactions with others, striking a balance between teamwork and personal expression. Beyond the confines of work, she often finds herself tending to the array of wildlife that frequent her yard, from birds and squirrels to the occasional stray dog (though she tries to avoid those encounters, or they may end up living with her) nurturing cats, kittens, and anything else that might need some TLC. Gardening serves as another outlet, allowing her to uncover beauty in the simplicity of everyday moments. Her proudest moments often stem from the simplest gestures, like witnessing her grown children express their love for each other at the end of a phone call. In those moments, she thinks, “If that is all my life amounts to, I have won.” One cherished childhood memory is visiting her grandmother's house, where she liked to brush her grandma’s long, gray hair while confiding in her about her "little girl problems." She can still recall the warmth of her twinkling eyes and the comfort of her smile as she listened intently.
