In celebration of World Landscape Architecture Month, we’re featuring the spectacular Jasminum polyanthum—commonly known as Pink Jasmine as April's plant of the month. Pink Jasmine is a vigorous evergreen vine that uses twining to climb posts, fences, and trellises—pushing boundaries by seamlessly bridging the built environment with the natural world. From spring through winter, the vine erupts with dense clusters of pink, tube-like buds that reveal pinkish-white flowers and emit a soft floral aroma. This versatile plant can transform an ordinary fence into a fragrant, floral partition or turn bland structural supports into artistic expressions of nature. Jasminum polyanthum expands the canvas of planting design, lifting the landscape out of the soil and onto man-made structures. #WLAM2025 #thisislandscapearchitecture

Breaking environmental barriers with resilient landscapes Carducci is teaming up with the Presidio Trust to give two residential landscapes in San Francisco a fun and functional makeover. The Presidio is embracing vibrant native plant communities inspired by the area’s natural and historic beauty - stretching across the stunning 80,000 acres of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. These projects aim to create resilient landscapes through the use of native plants sourced on-site, cutting the previous amount of irrigation water usage and implementing a strict list of best management practices in order to reduce the likelihood of plant infection. #WLAM2025 #thisislandscapearchitecture #breakingbarriers #presidio #carducciassociates

Breaking Physical Barriers 🌿 We’ve been partnering with a Bay Area school district to reimagine the schoolyards of 2 middle schools and 9 elementary schools—transforming paved, heat-retaining surfaces into vibrant, green, and accessible outdoor learning and nature play spaces. By removing hardscape and adding shade trees, planting areas, and nature-based play elements, we’re not only creating spaces that support mental well-being, balance, and coordination—but also reducing urban heat and improving air quality for students and surrounding communities. We’re still in the conceptual phase—swipe through to see progress plans that show what these transformed spaces could soon become! #WLAM2025 #carducciassocaites #OutdoorLearning #GreeningSchoolyards #NaturePlay #HealthySchools #BayAreaEducation #GreenSpaceMatters

Breaking Barriers & Protecting Our National Parks This year for #WLAM2025, we’re highlighting how landscape architects are breaking down barriers—physical, political, and cultural—to create innovative solutions. Today, we’re focusing on National Parks, where our work ensures accessibility, sustainability, and connection to nature. In today’s political climate, it’s vital we advocate across the aisle for the preservation of these national treasures. Our work goes beyond design—it’s about protecting them for future generations. How can we continue advocating for our parks? Share your thoughts and your favorite national parks below!

With this featured plant of the month, the scent of spring comes with a strong smell of ripe bananas! No, not from actual bananas, but from the blossoming fragrance of Magnolia figo, commonly known as the Banana Shrub. The Banana Shrub is a large, compact shrub or small tree that enjoys full sun to part shade. As an evergreen, the long waxy leaves hangout year-round with small cup-shaped flowers blooming heavily from spring to early summer. The flowers range in color from creamy yellow to medium maroon, emitting a powerfully sweet, banana-like aroma. The shrub’s densely branched structure makes for a great border or hedge, and the pleasant smell can lift the atmosphere of any garden.

Cousin Itt Acacia is a vigorous, small, mounding evergreen shrub known for having bushy branches of finely textured, weeping green leaves. Tiny clusters of pale yellow flowers appear in winter and spring. This plant thrives with little to no water or care, and does excellently in hot inland or coastal settings. Cousin Itt Acacia makes for a unique addition to any garden or landscape. #CousinIttAcacia #AcaciacognataCousinItt #PlantoftheMonth #LandscapeArchitecture
