One Day...Lots of Volunteers???? On Tuesday, we had great groups from Stormont Vail Health and Advisors Excel come hang out with the adults we serve to complete the finishing touches for the Halloween party which included additional pumpkin carving/decorating and making the gym look festive for the big day. We also had two long-time volunteers use their sewing and quilting expertise to start making tie-knotted blankets out of fleece that had been donated to our organization. We’ve Got Exciting News! ?? Capper Foundation is expanding our job skills training and supported community employment program for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, so they have the opportunity to develop the skills needed to be successful at their jobs and transfer those skills into their lives outside of the work environment. Knowing that growth equates to change, the first phase of the expanded program is a kitchen renovation and expansion for Dialogue Coffee House. The larger kitchen will increase capacity and create a safer, more efficient space to produce delicious baked goods. The job training program and kitchen will be located at 29th & Gage (same building as the original Dialogue location) and named the Caitlyn Halsey Empowerment Center (named after the trailblazing founder of Dialogue). Stay tuned for information on the remaining components of the expansion. As the program grows, Capper is excited to support the individuals enrolled in the program and partner with employers who believe in an inclusive workforce. As a young man with Down syndrome stated at the Heartland Disability Employment & Innovation Symposium last week, “When you invest in me it means you believe in me.” Let’s always remember these lives matter and providing them with opportunities is the right thing to do. From Dialogue Coffee House having their coffee bar set up and providing lunches to staff participating in panel discussions on great topics as well as networking with local, state, and national activists and changemakers.
