Capitolis has reached another major milestone on our Novations platform! In September, we achieved a record-breaking $485 billion in Gross Notional reduced and 4,510 trades novated. Every year I am truly excited for the Jewish High Holidays, full of feelings of gratitude, closure and excitement for new beginnings. This year, though, is very different. The last 12 months have been the most difficult in my lifetime to be Jewish and Israeli. The state of Israel has faced its most challenging test since its founding with the horrific massacre of October 7, 2023, followed by relentless attacks on Israel from Iran and its proxies in Lebanon, Yemen and of course Gaza. On top of the violent assaults, Jews around the world have experienced an outpouring of vile antisemitism—from “elite” university campuses in the US, to the blatantly anti-Israel, antisemitic UN. The Jewish high holidays are meant to be a time of reflection, and this year I’ve found myself feeling more ambivalent than ever: devastated while wanting to be hopeful, grieving while desperately trying to feel grateful. Think about how it felt going into Thanksgiving after 9/11. Going to synagogue and reflecting on the last year, I was confronted with a new and painful awakening, which led me to question my own beliefs and values.
