Reflecting on an Inspiring CAFwd Economic Summit in Sacramento Last week, our Capitol Impact team had the honor of attending the California Forward Economic Summit right here in Sacramento! It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and share ideas on how to drive equitable economic growth in California. ?? The highlight for us? A K16 and California Jobs First session we organized and co-led with Valley Vision, where we shared how the Sacramento K-16 Collaborative and We Prosper Together are working together to strengthen career pathways and our regional workforce. We were thrilled to have Derek Kirk, M.A. from California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and Michael Wiafe, MPP from the Governor’s office join us as speakers, along with Chancellor Brian King of Los Rios Community College District, Alex Taghavian of Capitol Impact, Evan Schmidt of Valley Vision, Alysia Bell of UNITE-LA, and Jermaine Hampton of Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC). Other memorable moments included: ?? A surprise speech by Governor Gavin Newsom, where he gave a special shout-out to the K16 Collaboratives grant program. ?? An inspiring talk led by Chet P. Hewitt, 1300 Campaign Chair and Sacramento K-16 Collaborative Executive Committee member, alongside Eloy Oakley of College Futures Foundation, highlighting the pivotal role of community colleges in shaping our workforce and economy. We were energized by the message that community colleges are truly the heart of California’s workforce, and there’s a clear call to make the ROI of higher education more transparent. We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and share our work, and we're excited to continue building a stronger, more inclusive economy for all Californians. #CAFwdSummit #WorkforceDevelopment #SacramentoK16 #EconomicGrowth #WeProsperTogether #CommunityColleges #CapitolImpact?

Director @ Capitol Impact | Driving social impact and economic opportunity through service design, placed-based capacity building, and blended investment strategy

I can’t believe it… Year 3 of attending the annual Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) National Learning Network Summit hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation ?? It was a special one, celebrating 10 years of TPM! This was a Summit full of firsts for me: ?Deepening my systems design practice as a selected 2024 National TPM Fellow ??Leading an Implementation Workshop on navigating diverse labor, trade, and union relationships ??Facilitating an industry networking roundtable on Agriculture with my colleague, Nathaniel Spilkin ?? Sharing insights and ideas with the brilliant, jazzy, and sharp Joe Quick, my TPM Peer Mentor (I am honored) ??Going full force at the first TPM Trivia Night with familiar and new collaborators It was fabulous to spend a full pre-conference session with all TPM Fellows and Faculty to go deep on what’s working, what’s pivoting, and what’s new in all our states and regions. This crew is the ultimate brain trust. Our team at Capitol Impact is continuing to expand our team of TPM certified practictioners — most recently growing from 3 to 8. This is a testament to the value of TPM and the business, education, and workforce need to deliver innovative and regenerative talent solutions. We love TPM because we are practitioners ourselves, from educators, advocates, grant managers, to workforce developers. We’ve been on the ground and know what it takes to move beyond programs and into systems-level solutions. We are big believers of place-based work and co-design processes. This is why we are thrilled to see TPM being embraced by more than 3,000 employers and 44 states across several industries to deliver ROI and equitable impact for both job seekers and employers to strengthen pathways into high demand, high wage jobs. As we say, “Hope is not a strategy, but TPM is.” This is a movement, join us ? Hats off to the brilliant USCCF team, Jaimie Francis Niki D. Michael Louis, till next year and all the engagements in-between! #TalentPipelineManagement

From Classroom to Career: Celebrating TPM Success with ACCO Engineered Systems We’re excited to share an inspiring success story from our Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) Collaborative! ?? Through our partnership with Kaiser Permanente and Los Rios Community College District, we’ve helped bridge the gap between education and meaningful careers—and today, we’re celebrating one of those achievements! Alex Soon, a Cosumnes River College alum who received the Promise to Career scholarship, generously funded by Kaiser Permanente, is now thriving as an apprentice at ACCO Engineered Systems, a key employer in our TPM Collaborative. ?? This is what happens when industry, education, and community come together to create opportunities for students to enter high-demand careers. A Brief Look at the TPM Collaborative: The Sacramento Health Facilities Construction TPM Collaborative, launched in 2019, connects employers, educators, and community partners to build a strong talent pipeline in the skilled trades. By addressing workforce needs directly and creating pathways for underrepresented groups, we’re helping ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. ?? Field Day Spotlight! Earlier this year, Program Director Alexis (Lex) Carlsson and Program Associate Nathaniel Spilkin visited our partners at Edge Collaborative for in-person collaboration with local leaders within the City of Stockton and San Joaquin county. Our team supports Edge Collaborative and their partners with technical assistance and strategy design, readying social sector organizations and agencies to apply sector-based strategies to program design and preparing organizations for state- and federal-level public investment opportunities. For several of these organizations, this work is increasingly centered on building organizational capacity to embed Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) methodologies into regional planning efforts, as well as strengthening local career pathways and building regional, employer-focused partnerships. ?? Restore the Delta: They kicked off the day with a productive technical assistance session with Sara Medina, Sustainable Agriculture and Land Manager, and her team from Restore the Delta, and Taylor Williams, Director of Workforce, from Edge Collaborative. Restore the Delta is leading key advocacy for environmental justice (EJ) communities, Delta Estuary health and movement efforts to support Delta farmers in transitioning to sustainable farming practices and bolstering the health of small- and medium-sized businesses. Check out their work at their website and their newly released Rice Farming Handbook (see comments below for links) ?? HATCH Workshop: The day continued with a tour at HATCH Workshop, a vibrant makerspace. HATCH supports local artists in launching their businesses and fuels creative endeavors in the community. A big thank you to Executive Director, Elazar Abraham, for the insightful tour! Learn more about their inspiring work (see comments). Of course, the team headed to Gian's Deli, a local favorite, and the Haggin Museum to dive into Stockton’s local workforce history. We are proud to support initiatives like this, that enhance workforce development and community engagement outcomes. These field visits not only strengthen our partnerships, but also deepen our commitment to positive community impact. On to planning the next one! #RegionalDesign #CommunityImpact #WorkforceDevelopment #TalentPipelineManagement

We recently returned from an incredible team retreat in Grass Valley – it was so wonderful?to have face to face time with the team! ??? This retreat was more than just a getaway; it was a chance for Capitol Impact to build deeper connections and understanding,?brainstorm together, and welcome new members to the team. We played games, dove into our DISC assessments, completed a Nevada City scavenger hunt, enjoyed downtime together, and talked about our visions for the future of the firm and how we can contribute to a better California. We’re thrilled to introduce our new teammates to our amazing network of clients and community partners. They bring fresh perspectives, new skills, and a shared commitment to our mission. We couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead! #socialimpactconsulting #teamretreat
