Throughout the month of March, disability advocates are meeting with legislators across the country to discuss making a difference. From advocating for bills, attending rallies, to signing petitions, everyone is doing their part to raise awareness surrounding the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities's 2025 theme,?"We’re Here All Year." CapGrow celebrates those doing the work to improve the everyday lives of the disability community including providers, DSP’s, social workers, counselors, and family advocates this month and beyond! Check-in with your state's developmental disability councils, organizations, and non-profits for your local day of action by searching for “Disability Rights Advocates Day + Your State.” #DisabilityRightsAdvocatesDay2025 #DevelopmentalDisabilitiesAwarenessMonth #BehavioralHealth

A Developing story: The Department of Justice is suing Pennsylvania referencing the Fair Housing Act. The case notes I/DD community homes are required to be fit with automatic sprinklers in contrast to similar environments across the state. By classifying I/DD-specific housing as “facilities” rather than homes in Pennsylvanian zoning, these regulations limit the total number of homes available to the I/DD community and hurt private lessors, alleges the DOJ. How do home modification regulations impact I/DD and Autism services in your state? Learn more about the suit below.

25 years later, the Olmsted Act continues to deinstitutionalize persons with disabilities. A new iteration of the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA)?is scheduled to deepen care coverage and mandate more adequate provider networks in 2025 through 2026 across the country. This new phase plans to also oust discriminatory data sharing policies that once dissuaded access to mental health services. But what does that mean for reimbursement and an already strained workforce? In the meantime, questions continue to emerge about reorganization. Check out the high level preview at the link below from Healthcare Dive.
