From an unexpected start in phlebotomy to becoming the lead donor care specialist at Cape Cod Hospital, Teri Lotterhand has built a meaningful and dynamic career. For the past 11 years, Teri has steadily grown her career at the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Blood Donor Center at Cape Cod Hospital. She began as a donor phlebotomist, then transitioned into an apheresis phlebotomist role, collecting both whole blood and platelets. Two years ago, she was promoted to lead donor care specialist — a role that showcases her ability to manage multiple aspects of the department, including coordinating mobile blood drives and training new staff. “A big part of this job is multitasking,” says Teri. “There are so many moving parts to keep track of, but I enjoy the challenge of wearing many hats.” We recently caught up with Teri at her office in the blood donor center to learn more about her background and passions she pursues outside of work—including fostering rescue dogs and renovating a 1900s farmhouse. We’re proud to announce that Cape Cod Healthcare has pledged $1 million over the next four years to fund a vital Cape-wide initiative addressing substance use disorder spearheaded by Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois II. The funding will support implementation of a Critical Incidence Management System or CIMS ?, an interactive tool that will connect the dedicated network of local police departments, the District Attorney’s office and key social service organizations in their focus on overdose management and community recovery support, helping to fight drug trafficking and ensure those in our community struggling with substance use disorder can access the treatment and resources they need. “Commitment to our community is at the core of all we do. It is part of our mission to continually assess the needs of our residents and partner with others to coordinate vital services, including behavioral health and substance use resources,” said Cape Cod Healthcare President and CEO Michael K. Lauf. “We are proud to support the implementation of this impactful tool in our united effort to address the devastating impact of substance use disorder on too many lives. We applaud District Attorney Galibois and his staff for bringing forward the CIMS project for funding consideration and thank the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for their partnership and key role in guiding this project through the approval process.” Learn more about this impactful initiative at https://lnkd.in/gv2ppcMG.
