Lifting Americans out of debt and poverty
关于我们
At Christians Against Poverty (CAP), we’re passionate about working with local churches to release Americans from a life sentence of debt, poverty and its causes – into a life filled with hope and freedom. By working with the church, we bring hope that today will get better and the future will be brighter; we offer freedom from the chains of debt, poverty and its causes; we share good news and that there is a community to walk alongside and advocate for people every step of the way. We equip and empower local churches with highly professional services that they offer free of charge to people in their local community.

Can you relate or know someone who can? From Brian Dye of Legacy Disciple Growing up, my family lived paycheck to paycheck. Vacations? We didn’t have those. I don’t have memories of visiting places like Niagara Falls or the Grand Canyon with my parents. We never dined out, never bought new clothes; every penny had to be carefully stretched. When I went off to college, I knew I’d be on my own financially. But that’s when I received my first letter from a credit card company. Mr. Discover offered me instant access to funds I didn’t actually have in my bank account. For someone who’d never had the luxury of eating out, the card felt like a miracle—a lottery win. Suddenly, I could not only afford meals for myself, but I could treat my friends too. The thrill was incredible. I knew, in theory, I’d have to pay the money back, but I didn’t understand the reality of budgeting, income, or expenses. My parents never taught me those things. Before I knew it, the card was maxed out, and making even the minimum payments became a struggle. Once again, I was back to scraping by—no more dining out, no more small luxuries. But this time, I wasn’t just broke; I was in bondage to debt.? Being broke is like having no pool in the backyard. But being in debt? That’s like having a pool filled with water but you are chained to the bottom of the deep end of that pool. You can’t enjoy a swim. You’re gasping for air, desperate to reach the surface, wondering if you’ll ever be free again. I could only wish that I was aware of CAP years ago. I had to learn financial stewardship the hard way. CAP is here to offer free debt help and financial wellness to families as an outreach of the church. https://capamerica.org/
